Inhalation for colds

Essential oils are most commonly used for inhalation. It is believed that breathing their vapors is very beneficial. In order to inhale the mixture, you can use special inhalers, they generate steam, which contains oil microparticles. If you do not have such a device, you can carry out the procedures using available tools. For this:

  • pour 1 liter of hot water into a saucepan or any deep dish, but not boiling water, so as not to burn yourself;
  • we tilt our head over the container, cover it with a towel and only then add essential oils;
  • we breathe through our mouth and nose for 10 minutes, eyes must be closed;
  • repeat inhalations every 2 hours to achieve high results.

It is important to know that the dosage of aromatic substances for children will be 3 times less than for adults. For example, for 1 liter of water for an adult, you need to take 3 drops of oil, and for a baby - only 1 drop. Also carefully read the recommendations for the use of formulas for pregnant women and the elderly.

Effective mixtures:

  1. Tea tree + lavender + eucalyptus - 1 drop each.
  2. Eucalyptus + tea tree + sage + peppermint (1,1,1,3 drops).
  3. Eucalyptus + lavender + rosemary + peppermint (2,2,1,1 drops).
  4. Spruce + peppermint + rosemary + cypress + thyme - 1 drop each.

Room disinfection

In case of illness of adults and children, it is important to properly disinfect the room in which they arrive. Germs, viruses and bacteria spread very quickly in dry and hot air, which increases the risk of infection for people who are in the same room with a sick person. The oils will help kill pathogens. To purify the air, we perform the following actions:

  • pour 1 liter of hot water into a jar or other container;
  • drip into it 4 drops of lavender, eucalyptus, pine, bergamot, tea tree;
  • we leave for 30 minutes in the room;
  • repeat every 2-3 hours.

Instead of a container with water, you can use an aroma lamp; it is also perfect for disinfecting a room.

You can also prepare an alcoholic solution with aromatic mixtures. Stir 5 drops of different essential oils or one type in 100 ml of rubbing alcohol. Spray the mixture from a spray bottle every 2 hours. This will help disinfect and in some way replace inhalation.

Bath and sauna

A bath and a sauna are a sure way to get rid of a cough, but these procedures can only be carried out if the disease is not accompanied by an increase in body temperature. For children, such treatment methods are used very carefully, since high humidity and air temperature can negatively affect their well-being.

If you decide to treat yourself with a bath, you can make it very beneficial both for the respiratory tract and for the skin with the help of aromatic oils. Take 1 drop each of lavender, chamomile, pine and eucalyptus. Stir them in 1 tablespoon of honey, add to water and pour in 1 tablespoon of milk. Take a bath for 15 minutes, it replaces inhalation, helps to get rid of coughs and has a positive effect on the skin.

In a sauna, ethereal mixtures can be added to the water that is poured over the stones. They will have a beneficial effect on the respiratory tract, remove phlegm and clear the bronchi. A mixture of chamomile and eucalyptus will help with a dry cough, and eucalyptus and tea tree for a wet cough.

Trituration

Rubbing is considered effective for coughing, and there are now many different special ointments available for this procedure. You can make the mixture yourself, it will have a positive effect on the respiratory tract.

To rub children, you need to take 1 teaspoon of any of the vegetable oils, warm well. It needs to be mixed with aromatic oils of eucalyptus, chamomile, tea tree and lavender - all taken 1 drop. If an adult is ill, then we take 2 teaspoons of the plant base and increase the amount of aroma mixture by 2 times, you can also add bergamot to it if there is a temperature. The procedure is performed after a bath or inhalation.

Precautions

When using inhalation or other procedures that require aromatic oils, the instructions must be read carefully. In some cases, the funds may be contraindicated for children and pregnant women. They also increase the effect of some antibiotics and reduce the effectiveness of homeopathic medicines.

Do not exceed the dosage of the mixtures, as this can cause allergies, especially in contact with the skin. For babies, the amount of essential oils for coughs should be at least 2 times less than for adults. It is generally not recommended for crumbs under 2 years old to arrange aromatherapy.

The use of oils for prophylactic purposes should be cyclical - after 3 weeks of aromatherapy, you need to take a break for 7-14 days.

Also, do not forget that traditional medicine must be combined with drug treatment, if prescribed by a doctor. Inhalation and other procedures can only be an addition to the main therapy.
