Onions - cough friend

Onions are an indispensable vegetable in every kitchen and an ancient complex of vitamins. It has been known to many peoples since ancient times. Composition and benefits

The biochemical composition of onions is rich in glucose, fructose, sucrose, maltose and inulin. It contains citric and malic acids, phytin, flavonoids, glycosides, enzymes, carotenoids, vitamins C, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and essential oils. Onions are rich in the minerals calcium, sodium, phosphorus and fluoride. 100 g green onions completely satisfy the daily intake of vitamin C in an adult.

All medicines use common onions. It can be combined with other products. The density of drugs can be different, liquid or viscous, reminiscent of jam.

Many children cannot stand onions and flatly refuse to take medications based on them. You can eliminate the pungent smell by pouring boiling water over the onion or boiling it for some time. Honey is also added to medicines for children. Its aroma interrupts the pronounced pungent smell of onions, gives the medicine a pleasant taste and softens the healing effect.

Sweet onion syrup

Adults and children from 3 years old.

Products: onion (1 pc.), Sugar (1-2 tablespoons).

  • Peel 1 onion, cut and place in a glass container.
  • Sprinkle with sugar and put in a dark place for a couple of hours.
  • Strain and use the onion juice as a medicine.

Dosage: take 1 tablespoon 5 or more times a day. With a strong cough - 2 tbsp. spoons every 2 hours.

Protect from direct sunlight. When the onion has given up all the juice, repeat the whole process again using fresh product.

Sweet raw onion puree

Adults and children from 3 years old.

Products: onion (1 pc.), Sugar (2 tablespoons).

  • Puree 1 onion in a blender.
  • Add 2 tbsp. tablespoons of sugar.
  • Insist mashed potatoes for 10 hours.

Dosage: children 3-7 years old - 1 teaspoon, children 7-12 years old - 1 dessert spoon, children over 12 years old and adults - 1 tbsp. spoon after meals 3 times a day or more.

Store in a cool, dark place.

Onion jam

Adults and children from 3 years old.

Ingredients: onion (3 pcs.), Sugar (1 tablespoon), honey (2 tablespoons).

  • Finely chop 3 onions, add 1 tbsp. a spoonful of sugar.
  • Place the mixture on the stove and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Let the jam cool slightly and add 2 tbsp. spoons of honey.

Dosage: children from 3 years old - 1 teaspoon, adults - 1 tablespoon, 4-5 times a day. Store in the refrigerator.

Onion jam

Adults and children from 2 years old.

Ingredients: onion (500 g), sugar (400 g), honey (50 g), water (1 L).

  • Peel and wash the onion, chop finely and mix with sugar.
  • Cover with water and cook over low heat for 3 hours. Add honey half an hour before readiness.
  • Put the finished jam in the jars, close the lid tightly.

Dosage: children 2-5 years old - 1 teaspoon, children 6-12 years old - 1 dessert spoon, children from 12 years old and adults - 1 tablespoon after meals 3-4 times a day for 5-10 days. Store the product tightly closed in the refrigerator.

Boiled onion (children's recipe)

Children from 3 years old.

Ingredients: onion (5 pcs.), Sugar (1/2 cup), water.

  • Peel the onion, chop and pour boiling water completely.
  • Add sugar and simmer until the onions are tender.
  • Grind the onion with the broth in a blender until smooth.
  • Bring the puree to a boil and cool.

Dosage: give the child 1 tablespoon warm every hour. Store in the refrigerator, warm up in portions.

Milk with onions (children's recipe)

Children from 1 year old.

  1. Ingredients: onion (1 pc.), Milk (1 glass).
  • Peel the onion, chop and pour boiling milk.
  • Let the medicine stand for 10 minutes.

Dosage: give the child a warm tincture of 1-2 teaspoons 4 or more times a day. Store in the refrigerator, reheat in small portions as consumed.

  • Peel the onion, chop finely and place in boiling milk.
  • Boil the onion until soft and rub through a sieve.
  • Bring to a boil again and add sugar (substitute honey for older children)

Dosage: children from 3 years old - 1/4 cup, from 12 years old - 1/2 cup at night. Store in the refrigerator, reheat in small portions.

Honey bow

Children from 1 year old

Ingredients: onion (1 pc.), Water (1 glass), honey (1-2 teaspoons).

  • Peel and finely chop the onion, pour boiling water over it.
  • Let the medicine brew, strain, add honey to the broth.

Dosage: for children from 1 year old - 1 teaspoon, from 3 years old - 50 ml 3-4 times a day. Store in refrigerator, warm before use.

Onion husk syrup for bronchitis

Ingredients: onion (2 pcs.), Sugar (1 glass), water (1 l).

  • Wash the onion without peeling and place it in boiling water with sugar.
  • Boil for 50 minutes and remove the onions.

Give the sick person a drink during the day. Store in refrigerator, warm before use.

Inhalation and compresses

  1. From a decoction of onions, potatoes and apples.

Ingredients: onion (1 pc.), Potatoes (1 pc.), Apple (1 pc.), Water (1 l).

  • Peel the onion, cut into large pieces, do the same with the apple.
  • Place the ingredients in a saucepan with water and a whole unpeeled potato tuber.
  • Bring to a boil, cook until the potatoes are tender.
  • Cool the broth and strain.

Method of application: inhale the vapors of the decoction for 5-10 minutes 3 times a day, closing your eyes. The procedure is suitable for any age, if the child can tolerate inhalation. Store in a cool place, refrigerate overnight.

  1. Onion inhalation.

Chop the onion and place it within a 30 cm radius of the patient. Use fresh onion as needed.

  1. Onion compress.
  • Chop the onion and place in a gauze bag.
  • Heat the compress in a water bath until warm. Do not overheat to avoid scalding.

Wrap the pouch in extra tissue, place the compress on the chest, and wrap the patient in a warm blanket. Keep the compress on your chest for 20 minutes. Use a fresh onion to re-compress.

Recommendations for use

  • Large amounts of onions irritate the stomach, so it is advisable to soften it with additional foods, such as milk, sugar or honey.
  • Onion juice can burn the mucous membrane, so it is not advisable to use it in its pure form.
  • It is recommended to take cough medicine with onions after the main meal.
  • It is not recommended to give raw onions to children under 3 years old.
  • The course of treatment with raw onions should last no more than 7 days.
  • Eating large amounts of onions can cause lethargy and flatulence.

Contraindications

Medicines with onions are not recommended for children under the age of one year, since this vegetable is introduced into the children's diet only from the 9th month of life. It is worth giving up onion medicines if the patient has problems with the heart, liver, kidneys, gallbladder and pancreas.
