Pharyngitis pills

Pharyngitis is an inflammatory disease of the throat that is often confused with sore throat. But these are completely different diseases. With angina, the tonsils become inflamed. And with pharyngitis, inflammation covers a much larger area - the entire mucous membrane of the pharynx (the upper part of the esophagus, which opens into the oral cavity) may be affected. The effectiveness of treatment depends on how correctly the causes of the disease have been identified. Lozenges often play a leading role in therapy.

Causes of the disease

Before starting treatment, it is necessary to find out whether the inflammation of the mucous membranes was provoked by external or internal reasons. The most common ones are:

  • physical irritants: polluted air, dust, tobacco smoke;
  • thermal burn of mucous membranes when eating too hot food, smoking cigarettes;
  • toxic chemicals: vapors from household chemicals, strong odors, preservatives, alcohol;
  • exposure to allergens that provoke strong or prolonged allergic reactions;
  • chronic respiratory diseases: sinusitis, rhinitis, bronchitis, in which inflammation spreads to the pharynx;
  • stomach problems: acidity, reflux disease, in which hydrochloric acid enters the esophagus, irritating it;
  • unfavorable working conditions, in which the respiratory organs are constantly irritated;
  • severe hypothermia, general or local (drinks with ice, ice cream, etc.);
  • prolonged or severe overstrain of the vocal cords (for teachers, singers, actors, announcers, etc.).

But in more than 80% of cases, pharyngitis is of an infectious nature, and inflammation develops after angina, ARVI or other respiratory diseases provoked by pathogenic microorganisms.

Even caries can cause pharyngitis: if teeth are not treated in a timely manner, they become a constant source of infection in the oral cavity.

Pharyngitis types

The effectiveness of treatment depends on the type of pharyngitis. It is possible to eliminate inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa only by removing its main cause. That is why quite often the independent use of systemic antibiotics does not give the desired result. They do not have an anti-inflammatory effect and do not eliminate non-infectious causes, and create even more favorable conditions for viruses and fungi, inhibiting a person's own immunity.

For each type of pharyngitis, it is necessary to select the appropriate type of medication:

  • for viral - antiviral and immunomodulators;
  • for bacterial - antibiotics: systemic or local action;
  • for fungal - antimycotic agents;
  • for allergic people - antihistamines;
  • for traumatic - anti-inflammatory and antiseptic.

If pharyngitis is provoked by trauma, mechanical or chemical damage to the mucous membrane, then the treatment is symptomatic, aimed at restoring their integrity and protective functions. Chronic pharyngitis requires complex systemic treatment.

Thus, there is no universal pill for pharyngitis; drugs are selected strictly individually.

The advantage of topical preparations

One of the most effective remedies for the treatment of pharyngitis are lozenges. They can be used as an independent remedy for relieving sore throat and inflammation of the mucous membrane, and as part of complex therapy in combination with systemic antibiotics or drugs of other groups.

Lozenges have a number of advantages over other pharyngitis treatments:

  • act directly on the area of inflammation;
  • give a quick and tangible effect;
  • among them there are completely natural preparations;
  • do not suppress the immune system;
  • do not destroy beneficial microflora;
  • contribute to the rapid recovery of mucous membranes.

Due to the fact that the active components of the lozenges are released gradually and mainly settle on the mucous membranes of the larynx, this type of drug has a minimum of contraindications and can even be used to treat pregnant women and children from three years of age (a younger child will simply chew or swallow the pill).

The best pills for pharyngitis

In the first place among the throat lozenges for resorption is definitely "Faringosept". The drug was purposefully created for the treatment of pharyngitis. Its main active ingredient is ambazon, a substance that has a detrimental effect on almost all types of bacteria that can provoke infectious pharyngitis.

At an early stage of the disease, it is quite enough to use only this drug for a complete recovery.

Other lozenges give a good result for pharyngitis:

  1. Falimint. Has a pronounced antitussive effect, copes with sore throat. A very powerful drug that can quickly eliminate inflammation of the mucous membranes.
  2. Laripront. Strong antiseptic with anti-inflammatory and mucolytic slope. Softens dry cough, soothes irritated mucous membranes. Virtually no contraindications.
  3. "Neo-Angin" is a natural remedy based on mint extract and anise oil with the addition of menthol. Instantly relieves sore throat due to the cooling effect.
  4. "Hexaliz". A complex preparation, which includes three antibacterial components at once, which makes it super effective in the treatment of infectious pharyngitis. But the duration of the course of treatment should not exceed 10 days. Allergic reactions are possible.
  5. Strepsils. The antibiotic amylmethatrikzole, which is part of it, has a detrimental effect on most pathogenic microorganisms. The anti-inflammatory effect is provided by essential oils: mint, anise, eucalyptus.
  6. Septolette. It also contains antibacterial ingredients with eucalyptus and mint essential oils. It has proven itself in cases where pharyngitis is provoked by an infection in the oral cavity.
  7. Travisil. A good remedy for the treatment of non-infectious or chronic pharyngitis. It has a rather weak anti-inflammatory effect, but it quickly restores mucous membranes, since it contains about 15 plant extracts.
  8. "Doctor Mom" is a completely natural remedy, which contains extracts of more than a dozen medicinal plants. Quickly relieves inflammation and discomfort in the throat, recommended for children and pregnant women.

The choice of lozenges in pharmacies is much wider and most of them are sold without a prescription (even with antibiotics). But this does not mean that the drugs can be used uncontrollably whenever you want. They contain a fairly high concentration of active substances, and an overdose will lead to side effects.

If you find it difficult to make a choice yourself, ask your pharmacist for advice. He will recommend several effective drugs, and you will read the instructions and determine which one is best for you.

It is better to use antibiotic tablets only as directed by a doctor, especially if you do not know what exactly triggered the disease.

Additional drugs

In order to cope with the disease as quickly as possible, it is useful to use other means for treating the throat:

  1. Rinsing. Useful for all types of pharyngitis. It soothes and moisturizes mucous membranes, relieves inflammation and pain, and flushes mucus if present.For rinsing, it is better to use decoctions of herbs or antiseptic solutions: furacillin, chlorophyllipt, sea salt.
  2. Irrigation sprays. Their action is not as long as when using lozenges, but many sprays have a stronger antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect: Ingalipt, Cameton, Hepilor. The drug with the antibiotic "Bioparox" is useful if pharyngitis has developed against the background of acute or chronic tonsillitis.
  3. Antihistamines. Their use is justified only if the patient has severe swelling of the mucous membranes or the allergic nature of pharyngitis. It is better to use them in the form of a syrup ("Tavegil", "Diazolin"), which is not washed down with water.
  4. Systemic antibiotics. In the acute course of the disease, it is necessary to use broad-spectrum antibiotics in tablets or injections. Injections are prescribed only for patients in serious condition, or if the throat hurts so much that it is difficult to swallow the pill. For the treatment of pharyngitis in tablets, use "Amoskil", "Amoxiclav" or sulfonamides ("Sulfathiazole", "Sulfadimethoxin", "Streptocid").
  5. Fortifying agents. First of all, these are multivitamin complexes and immunomodulatory drugs. They accelerate the processes of regeneration of mucous membranes, activate the internal reserves of the body and significantly accelerate recovery.

Proven folk remedies will also be good helpers in the fight against pharyngitis: honey, propolis tincture, decoctions of medicinal herbs. If the disease is non-infectious, then they, in combination with lozenges, are quite enough for a quick recovery.

With the right treatment, relief occurs already in 2-3 days. But if a few days after the start of intensive therapy, the throat continues to hurt, or the temperature rises, and a severe cough appears, then an urgent need to go to the doctor. The treatment tactics you have chosen turned out to be wrong, and the disease progresses, which means it can turn into a chronic form.
