Nose treatment

The benefits of sea buckthorn oil for a cold in a child

The presence of mucous nasal discharge is a protective reaction in response to the action of pathogens, bacteria, viruses. As a result, a runny nose is a constant symptom of an acute respiratory viral disease, in which the nasopharynx is the entrance gate of the infection.

With regard to drug measures, then the need for treatment of the common cold is discussed if it is expressed to such an extent that it significantly worsens the patient's condition, interfering with proper rest. In this case, therapeutic actions are indicated,

  • aimed at improving the discharge of mucus;
  • helping to reduce dryness of mucous membranes;
  • prevent the formation of crusts in the nose.

These activities are most relevant in children. The anatomical features of the structure of the auditory tube in a child contribute to the rather rapid development of inflammation in it.

And this, in turn, leads to stagnation in the tympanic cavity and the development of otitis media of the middle ear. This process is accelerated by thicker discharge from the nose, which narrows the lumen of the auditory tube. Thus, maintaining a fluid consistency of nasal secretions is an important treatment.

Oily external products

For the treatment of a runny nose caused by exposure to an infectious agent, various means of a fatty consistency are often used, and, above all, sea buckthorn oil. The use of these funds is due to the fact that therapeutic measures for a viral infection are only symptomatic and aimed at preventing possible complications of the disease.

One of the directions of such actions is to ensure nasal breathing, combat dryness of the nasal mucous membranes and prevent the formation of crusts.

It is in this situation that funds with a greasy consistency are relevant. If you neglect these actions, breathing through the nose will be difficult, the child will be forced to breathe through the mouth. This will lead to the spread of the infection deep into the bronchial tree, the development of bronchitis and pneumonia.

The most popular drugs used to keep the nasal mucosa from drying out is the use of nasal drops such as Pinosol, or external agents in the form of various oils. Most often used for a cold, sea buckthorn oil in the nose of a child.

Medicinal properties

The unique composition of sea buckthorn oil allowed it to take a leading position in its use in this situation. Its use is due to both the consistency of this product and other useful properties. Among them

  • anti-inflammatory action;
  • bactericidal;
  • healing;
  • emollient.

The presence of important vitamins, trace elements and fatty acids in the composition helps to increase local immunity. The use of sea buckthorn oil helps to relieve swelling of the mucous membrane, improving breathing through the nose. The emollient action prevents the formation of crusts. It also helps heal the skin around the nose that has been damaged by constant rubbing with a handkerchief.

Contraindications

It should be remembered that sea buckthorn oil can only be dripped into a child's nose for children over 5 years old. Otherwise, such an action can be very dangerous, as it can cause a severe allergic reaction.

With the development of such actions, it is recommended to rinse the nose with plenty of warm water and dry it. If symptoms of an allergic reaction persist, antihistamines should be taken by mouth.

Nasal congestion and rhinitis are also persistent symptoms of allergic conditions. Abundant mucous nasal discharge with hay fever is especially typical.
