Blown ear - how to treat?

Pain in the auditory organ can occur suddenly after being in a draft or wind. If the ear has blown, how and what to treat at home, it is better to consult a specialist. However, the first steps to improve well-being can be done by yourself.

Causes and symptoms

The expression "blew out the ears" is largely collective, since the cause of pain can be not only the wind, but also failure to observe precautions when using the air conditioner, as well as walking without a hat in cold weather. It is quite easy to catch a cold even in summer, if, for example, you drive in a car with a window ajar or sit in a draft. In this case, the air flow blows away the heat generated by the human skin, and a zone of local (local) hypothermia is created.

Unpleasant sensations, as a rule, arise suddenly a few hours after excessive hypothermia of the head. The middle part of the organ of hearing is most susceptible to hypothermia.

In this case, the pain is very strong, so people are often at a loss what to do if the ear is blown out and it hurts, while the symptoms have the following characteristics:

  • slight weakening of hearing and laying at the initial stage;
  • later, pain in the organ (aching and dull) or acute lumbago, which is very difficult to endure;
  • increased pain in the evening and at night and weakening in the daytime;
  • enlarged lymph nodes on the affected side;
  • headache, which becomes constant, can give to the teeth;
  • over time, the patient's body temperature rises, lethargy appears.

Symptoms often appear unexpectedly, in the evening or at night, when it is quite problematic to see a doctor. Then the question arises: what to do if the ear is inflated (pierced)?

First of all, you need to carefully examine the auricle and ear canal for the presence of fluid (exudate). Further actions of the patient depend on this. In addition, these symptoms should be distinguished from signs of possible dental disease (periodontitis, caries), which may be very similar.

Traditional therapy

The solution in the presence of discharge, often accompanied by a feeling of stuffing, is always one - referring to an otolaryngologist. Such signs may indicate developing otitis media. Especially attentive need to be when symptoms appear in children, pregnant and lactating women.

The doctor usually prescribes medication, which includes anti-inflammatory, antipyretic drugs, and, if necessary, antibiotics.

Warming up is contraindicated in this case, since it can accelerate the development of the inflammatory process. Therapy is mostly done at home.

In the absence of liquid, a different algorithm of actions is used. So, if ears blew out, what to do and how to treat? There are several ways to help yourself and your loved ones:

  1. Eliminate or relieve pain with paracetamol, aspirin, ibuprofen, or cold medications available in the home medicine cabinet (Rinza, Pharmacitron, Flukold).
  2. Warming up with dry heat. An ultraviolet ("blue") lamp is well suited for these purposes. However, in its absence, a sock or a soft linen bag with rice or salt heated in a pan is used, which is applied to the diseased organ every hour for 10 minutes. Also in this situation, a heating pad is effective.
  3. Warming compress. For adults, the best version of the compress is vodka, for children - using heated vegetable oil. The bandage is impregnated with one of these means and placed around the auricle, a layer of cotton and paper or cellophane film is applied on top. All this is fixed with a bandage or a warm scarf. To increase the effect, you can put a gauze turunda moistened with boric or ethyl alcohol into the ear canal, but you need to be careful not to burn yourself. The compress should be kept for about 5 hours twice a day, it is best to put it at night.
  4. Special drops. They are able to quickly relieve pain and ease the patient's condition. Drops Otipax, Otinum, Sofradeks, Otofon, Normaks have proven themselves well. They all contain an anesthetic component, and some contain antibiotics.

In women in the first trimester of pregnancy, the choice of drugs is very limited to avoid negative effects on the fetus. To relieve pain, it is better to use Otipax and Nurofen, and the therapy is based on vegetable oils, herbs and vasoconstrictor drugs.

Traditional medicine methods

Traditional medicine offers a wide range of remedies for what to do when the ear bleeds. There are a large number of natural components that can stop inflammation, ease discomfort and warm up the affected organ. Several folk recipes for how to treat an ear if it bleeds.

    • A peeled onion is baked, pounded to a mushy state and cooled to a temperature of 30-35 degrees. The resulting gruel is laid out in a thin layer on a bandage, which is rolled up and inserted into the auditory canal for half an hour.
    • A small piece of fresh onion is wrapped in several layers of gauze and inserted into the ear canal for 30 minutes, after a while the procedure is repeated. Do not insert the tampon deep into the canal to avoid burns.
    • The top of the onion is cut off, cumin seeds are poured into the recess, wrapped in foil and baked in the oven until soft. Then juice is squeezed out of the bulb, and warm drops are instilled into the ear canal at night (5 drops each).
  2. Drops of vegetable oil (olive, linseed, sunflower) in a heated form with a pipette are instilled overnight and covered with a cotton swab.
