How to cure pharyngitis with folk remedies

The inflammatory process, localized on the mucous membrane and in the tissues of the pharynx, is called pharyngitis. The disease can proceed in an acute form, as well as, if the treatment is started incorrectly or untimely, it can turn into a chronic one. Along with drug therapy, the treatment of pharyngitis with folk remedies is highly effective and can significantly reduce the severity of the symptoms of the disease, accelerating recovery.

Causes and symptoms

Most often, pharyngitis occurs under the influence of various irritating factors on the pharyngeal mucosa. Among the most common causes of the disease are:

  • eating too hot, cold, peppery food;
  • prolonged inhalation of highly polluted, dusty, dry air;
  • prolonged inhalation of strong odors (from paints and varnishes);
  • living in industrial areas and places with an unfavorable environmental situation;
  • smoking, excessive alcohol consumption;
  • the presence of chronic diseases such as gastritis, which is accompanied by frequent heartburn;
  • prolonged use of various drugs, to which addiction can develop (for example, vasoconstrictor drops, which are recommended for no more than five days);
  • deviations in the work of the thyroid gland, as a result of which there is a violation of the hormonal background.

Regardless of the causes of the disease, pharyngitis is most often characterized by the following symptoms:

  • sore throat;
  • feeling of a foreign object;
  • redness of the throat and back of the throat;
  • slight hyperthermia (37.0-37.5 degrees);
  • shortness of breath, rhinorrhea.

There are several forms of pharyngitis:

  1. Catarrhal is characterized by redness of the pharyngeal mucosa, increased production of mucus on the back wall of the nasopharynx.
  2. Atrophic is characterized by dry throat, often with crusts.
  3. Hypertrophic, the main differences are a sharp increase in the pharyngeal mucosa, the development of edema.

Folk remedies for the treatment of pharyngitis have a therapeutic effect in any form of the disease, and most of the methods can be used both to treat adults and children.

Treatment

At the first sign of pharyngitis, you need to see a doctor. After consulting a general practitioner or otolaryngologist and confirming the diagnosis, the specialist will prescribe treatment. Therapy can be carried out both with medications and traditional medicine methods.

Folk remedies for pharyngitis, with the right approach to treatment, provide:

  • etiotropic action destroys pathogenic microorganisms that affect the pharyngeal mucosa;
  • antiseptic effect - helping to quickly disinfect the surface of the pharynx, providing a pronounced therapeutic effect, not inferior in effectiveness to pharmaceutical preparations;
  • immunostimulating effect - treatment with folk remedies for pharyngitis is often based on raising immunity and stimulating the body's protective functions, which helps to eliminate unpleasant and painful symptoms, as well as prevent complications.

For the treatment of pharyngitis with folk remedies, it is best to use several methods at the same time, as well as supplement them with drug therapy. For example, it is effective to use rinsing, herbal decoctions, inhalation and warming compresses.

Important! The use of warming compresses is contraindicated at elevated body temperature, as well as for children under the age of three.

Therapy using bee products

In the treatment of pharyngitis, the use of propolis, honey and other beekeeping products has a high therapeutic effect. These substances have a pronounced disinfecting effect, help cleanse the pharyngeal mucosa from pathogenic microorganisms, and reduce inflammation.

Important! The use of infusions and solutions for rinsing the throat, which have a drying effect (alcoholic extract of propolis, chamomile decoction) is contraindicated in the atrophic form of the disease.

Such well-known recipes using propolis and honey:

  1. The propolis is crushed, cold water is added and the wax particles rise to the surface. Then the liquid is drained. Vodka is added to purified propolis (half a glass of vodka for thirty grams of substance), insisted for seven days. The resulting infusion is filtered and mixed with glycerin in a ratio of one to two. The tool is used to lubricate the throat twice a day for ten days.
  2. You can simplify the process and purchase a ready-made propolis tincture at the pharmacy. In this case, combine the purchased tincture with sea buckthorn oil in a one-to-one ratio, and lubricate the throat twice a day.
  3. Rinsing with propolis solution is also effective. To do this, the pharmacy solution is diluted in a glass of warm boiled water in a ratio of two teaspoons per glass of liquid.
  4. To obtain an antiseptic effect, you can chew a piece of propolis several times a day for three minutes.

Important! Before using propolis or honey, make sure there is no allergic reaction.

  1. Honey with milk is a good remedy for relieving symptoms, moisturizing the mucous membrane of the throat. To do this, seven grams of honey is dissolved in a glass of warm fat milk, mixed and drunk in small sips. This solution can be used three to four times a day. For a more effective fight against infection, you can add a small amount of baking soda to the drink (a third of a teaspoon per glass).
  2. If chronic pharyngitis is being treated, an expectorant is added to a glass of milk with honey, for example, two tablets of Mukaltin, you can also add a drop of iodine. This remedy is used once a day before bedtime. The course of treatment is about ten days.
  3. Propolis extract (ten grams) can be used in combination with peach oil (30 grams) and tea tree oil (a few drops). This remedy is used twice a day to lubricate the throat and also as nasal drops.

Using ginger

Ginger root has an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and warming effect, helps cleanse the lymph nodes, moisturizes the nasopharynx, and reduces the severity of the main symptoms. Here are some of the most effective ways to treat sore throat with ginger:

  1. The root of the plant is crushed and poured with hot water at the rate of five grams of substance per glass of liquid. Insist the solution for fifteen minutes, filter, add honey and a slice of lemon. It is consumed warm in small sips twice a day.
  2. If pharyngitis is accompanied by a cough and a burning sensation in the throat, then it is recommended to use ginger in combination with licorice root. To prepare the drug, take five grams of licorice and ginger powder, and pour one and a half glasses of hot water. The tool is insisted for sixty minutes, filtered and drunk 150 ml twice a day.
  3. To raise general immunity, it is recommended to use a drink prepared on the basis of green tea with the addition of ground ginger, red pepper and honey every day for ten days.

Important! A contraindication to the use of ginger is poor blood clotting, gastritis, stomach ulcers, heartburn, pregnancy, up to three years of age.

Gargle recipes

It is known that gargling is one of the most effective treatments for nasopharyngeal inflammation.Such procedures help to eliminate pathogenic microflora from the throat surface, and also contribute to the restoration of the mucous membrane.

  1. To prepare the product, take one part of chamomile and four parts of calamus root, pour a tablespoon of the collection with 300 ml of hot drinking water. Insist for two hours. Rinsing is carried out three times a day until the symptoms disappear completely.
  2. The solution is prepared on the basis of elm bark, which is crushed and poured with boiling water in the ratio of one teaspoon of dry matter to half a glass of liquid. The broth is infused for four hours, filtered and used up to five times per tribute.
  3. Sea salt is also an effective remedy for sore throats. A tablespoon of the product is poured with two glasses of drinking water, heated to 37 degrees to completely dissolve the salt. The procedure is carried out up to six times a day.
