How to cure chronic pharyngitis at home

Chronic pharyngitis is a disease in which inflammation occurs, localized on the mucous and lymphoid tissues of the pharynx, which is chronic. Most often, this form of the disease develops in adults and is the result of prolonged inhalation of highly polluted air, constant smoking, alcohol abuse and other chronic diseases. Such inflammation is not considered dangerous, therefore, following the clear recommendations of a specialist, you can treat chronic pharyngitis at home.

Signs

The chronic form often arises as a result of incorrect or inappropriate treatment of the acute form. At the same time, periods of exacerbation and remission (improvement of the condition) are distinguished. Relapses most often occur with a sharp decrease in the protective functions of the body as a result of sudden hypothermia and in the event of acute respiratory infections.

There are several types of chronic pharyngitis, which are accompanied by various symptoms:

  • Catarrhal - often occurs in smokers with many years of experience and in those who, by virtue of their profession, are forced to work in rooms with very dusty air. Even during a lull, the patient often experiences symptoms such as pain in the nasopharynx, a feeling of tightness, hoarseness, tickling, burning.
  • Hypertrophic - accompanied by compaction of the tissues of the nasopharyngeal mucosa in the area of inflammation, thickening of lymphatic tissues, and the development of edema. The main signs of this stage are a significant accumulation of pus on the surface of the pharynx and an increase in the amount of viscous secretion, which causes the appearance of a constant fetid odor from the mouth and chronic cough, which is difficult to treat with standard treatment.
  • Atrophic - considered the most severe stage. At this stage, a constantly progressive thickening of the pharyngeal mucosa and lymphatic system can develop. The viscosity of the secretion increases significantly, it stagnates in the nasopharynx, crusts can form, the presence of which provokes the feeling of a foreign object. Constant tickling, annoying dry cough, which is often aggravated during a night's sleep, are also signs of an atrophic form.

Exacerbation of the chronic stage is accompanied by symptoms similar to those that occur in the acute phase of the disease: pain in the pharynx, dryness, burning, moderate hyperthermia, general malaise. Also, often with pharyngitis, an increase in the cervical lymph nodes occurs.

Treatment

There are certain treatment protocols that can quickly eliminate the underlying causes and symptoms of uncomplicated forms of the disease. Whereas effective therapy for the chronic form takes much longer.

To determine how to treat a disease, it is necessary to find out the factors that provoked it.

  • if pathogenic microorganisms (viruses or bacteria) become the cause of the inflammatory process, the doctor may prescribe antiviral drugs (Arbidol, Remantadin, Anaferon) or antibiotics (Sumamed, Augmentin).

Important! Therapy for exacerbation of the chronic form of the disease often requires the use of antibacterial drugs.

  • When the disease has developed as a result of abnormalities in the work of the gastrointestinal tract, accompanied by the throwing of the contents of the stomach into the pharynx, it is necessary to seek help from a gastroenterologist.
  • When the cause of the disease is prolonged smoking, alcohol abuse or prolonged stay in a room with polluted air, for more effective treatment, provoking factors should be excluded first of all.

Despite the fact that there are certain difficulties in the treatment of a complicated form of the disease, chronic pharyngitis can be treated on an outpatient basis. Home therapy for adults should include the use of certain drugs, agents and procedures aimed at reducing the severity of the inflammatory process, eliminating pain, moisturizing the nasopharyngeal mucosa, liquefying and removing thick secretions.

  1. Use of antiseptic sprays, lozenges, lozenges, tablets (Faringosept, Chlorophyllipt, Strepsils, Geksoral). Often, these funds also have anesthetic and anti-inflammatory effect, and contain extracts of various herbs, such as sage, chamomile, eucalyptus.
  2. If a patient has a fever during an exacerbation, the disease is accompanied by a severe burning sensation in the throat or a headache, the use of such drugs as Ibuprofen, Analgin, Aspirin, Nise is recommended.
  3. Physiotherapy procedures are also indicated in the complex therapy of chronic pharyngitis. At home, inhalation over warm steam can be used. As solutions, you can use special pharmacy mixtures for inhalation, soda-salt solution (a teaspoon of dry substances per liter of water), normal saline solution, herbal infusions and essential oils, alkaline inhalations using mineral water (Narzan, Borzhomi, Polyana Kvasova ).

Important! Inhalation is contraindicated in case of hyperthermia above 38 degrees, as well as in case of individual intolerance to the components that make up the inhalation mixtures.

  1. To raise immunity and increase the general resistance of the body, it is advisable to use immunostimulating drugs (IRS-19, Immunal, Imudon), as well as vitamin complexes (Alphabet, Vitrum, Supradin).
  2. If an exacerbation of the disease is accompanied by a cough, it is necessary to use drugs that have mucolytic and expectorant effects (ACC, Ambroxol, Mukaltin, Gerbion, Bronchipret).
  3. To reduce irritation of the throat mucosa, reduce the severity of the inflammatory process and accelerate recovery, you must adhere to a gentle diet. Eliminate too hot, cold, spicy, salty, sour and smoked foods from the diet. Giving preference to warm mushy food, soups, broths.
  4. To moisturize the mucous throat, thin the viscous secretion and reduce the intoxication of the body, it is recommended to drink plenty of fluids. To do this, use teas, infusion of medicinal herbs (chamomile, linden, sage, rose hips), compotes, fruit drinks, non-acidic juices, warm fat milk with honey, non-carbonated alkaline water.

Along with the treatment, general recommendations must be followed to speed up the healing process.

  • With an exacerbation of the disease, it is advisable to stay at home for several days and not fly to work, excluding visiting crowded places and hypothermia, so that an additional infection does not join the weakened body by the disease.
  • There is no need to stay in bed unless the illness is accompanied by fever and excessive fatigue. In this situation, it is necessary to observe the sleep and wakefulness regime, giving the body the opportunity to have a good rest during a night's sleep.
  • Observe optimal climatic conditions to prevent dry mouth. The temperature in the room should be at 20 degrees, while the humidity should be in the range of 50-70%. To achieve the necessary indicators, it is necessary to ventilate the room, regularly carry out wet cleaning, and use a humidifier.

Rinses

The procedure for rinsing the throat is highly effective in treatment. There are a large number of medications and methods of traditional medicine.

  1. You can use a solution of Furacilin. For this, 0.02 g of a furacilin tablet is dissolved in a glass of drinking water. The procedure is repeated three times a day for five days.
  2. Also, doctors often recommend using a solution of Chlorophyllipt and Miramistin.
  3. Iodine has a pronounced antiseptic effect. To prepare a solution, forty drops of the substance are dissolved in a glass of drinking water and gargled up to three times a day.

Important! The iodine solution has a drying effect, so it cannot be used for more than three days. Also, iodine preparations must be carefully used in patients with thyroid problems.

  1. For rinsing, you can prepare a solution of pine buds, thyme herb, mint, eucalyptus herb, chamomile, elecampane root. All ingredients are mixed in equal proportions and poured with hot water at the rate of two tablespoons of dry matter per half liter of water. After that, the agent is infused for ten hours in a dark cool place, filtered, and used for rinsing three times a day.
  2. Rinsing can be done with fresh warmed cabbage or beetroot juice. The procedure is repeated up to four times a day until complete recovery.
  3. An infusion of immortelle flowers, raspberry leaves and horsetail is also used in the complex therapy of the chronic form of the disease. Medicinal herbs are mixed in equal proportions and poured with boiling water in the ratio of a tablespoon of dry matter to a glass of water.
