Acute pansinusitis: symptoms and treatment

Acute pansinusitis is a complication of sinusitis in the form of pathological inflammation of all paranasal sinuses. It should be noted the rapidity of the development of this ailment. The infection affects the nasal cavities, where large amounts of pus accumulate rapidly. Acute suppurative pansinusitis is a serious illness. In addition to inflammation and swelling of the mucous membrane of the sinuses, the so-called submucous layer - the bone, as well as the periosteum - is affected.

Forms of pansinusitis

According to doctors, today there are several types of such a disease. Catarrhal pansinusitis is a pathology in which hyperemia and edema of the mucous membrane occurs. A transparent secretion (mucus) begins to be actively produced, but without the formation of pus. The exudative form of the disease is also characterized by the formation of mucous secretions in the nasal sinuses. This happens with an infectious lesion of epithelial cells.

Polypoid pansinusitis - what is it? Another type of ailment that occurs as a result of chronic inflammation and swelling of the mucous membrane (chronic pansinusitis). As the acute form becomes chronic, local thickenings begin to appear on the surface of the mucous membrane. Over time, they transform into polyps and granulations.

Disruption of communication between the sinuses and the nasal cavity leads to purulent pansinusitis. Swelling of the mucous membrane provokes blockage of the channels. As a result, a large amount of mucus accumulates. It is an ideal place for the development of pathogenic microorganisms. As they concentrate, pus appears.

If we talk about hyperplastic pansinusitis, then the duration of its course should be noted. In the process of the development of the disease, the mucous membrane thickens, the growth of connective tissues occurs in the sinuses. All this negatively affects the work of the mucous glands and leads to their dysfunction.

Disease manifestations

Pansinusitis, the symptoms of which are quite varied, is an unpleasant disease. Its signs are easily explained by the presence of an extensive infectious focus, which contributes to the active release of toxins. The symptoms of pansinusitis are as follows:

  1. General weakness and fever are the most striking manifestations of the disease, giving the patient significant discomfort. Fever is the result of poisoning the body with the waste products of bacteria. These symptoms will vary from case to case and will depend on the form and severity of the disease.
  2. Another characteristic symptom is severe headache. The patient has a feeling of constriction and excessively high intracranial pressure. The heaviness in the area of the paranasal sinuses is well felt. The use of analgesics does not provide relief.
  3. Nasal congestion is not only a cause of the disease, but is also a direct result of it. This means that the infection spreads from the sinuses to the entire nasal cavity. Swelling of the mucous membrane contributes to the narrowing of the nasal passages. In addition, congestion can be triggered by blockage of the airways with purulent secretions.
  4. An important symptom of pansinusitis is a change in the patient's voice. The sinuses stop working normally, and the nose stops breathing. As a result, a nasal voice appears.
  5. Do not forget about the swelling of the soft facial tissues. In addition, painful sensations appear when palpating (feeling) the forehead, lateral areas of the nose and areas under the eyes.
  6. In some cases, the body temperature rises to subfebrile values (37-38 degrees).
  7. There is purulent discharge from the nose, yellow and green.
  8. The patient, even after minor physical exertion, quickly gets tired and feels weak in the body.

The causes of the onset of the disease

Before treating pansinusitis, you need to determine the factors that cause it. The main one is infection. In the process of development of the acute form of the disease, the multiplication of pathogenic monoflora occurs. The chronic form assumes the association of microorganisms. In most cases, the following are infectious agents of this disease:

  • staphylococci;
  • streptococci;
  • anaerobic bacteria;
  • colibacillus;
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa;
  • corynebacteria.

Microorganisms enter the sinuses with air during respiration, through the blood (hematogenous infection) or through the natural channels of the body. Often, pansinusitis appears against the background of such ailments of the upper respiratory tract as measles, rhinitis, flu, and so on. The provoking factors include:

  • smoking;
  • inhalation of dirty air;
  • addiction;
  • alcohol abuse;
  • periodontal disease;
  • caries;
  • diabetes;
  • hormonal treatment;
  • chemotherapy.

Children also suffer from this disease. But in them, it is usually caused by adenoids (pathological changes in the nasopharyngeal tonsils). Due to the incomplete development of the paranasal sinuses, the disease may not have pronounced symptoms. At the same time, it is incredibly difficult to clearly identify the subjective signs of pansinusitis in children.

Drug treatment

To quickly cope with such an ailment, doctors prescribe a course of medications. First of all, we are talking about the so-called systemic antibiotics with a wide range of effects on the entire body. As a rule, drugs from the macrolide and cephalosporin groups are used ("Azithromycin", "Ceftriaxone", "Erythromycin" and others). As for the dosage and duration of admission, they will be determined taking into account the form and severity of pansinusitis.

The therapy is complemented by the use of drops for vasoconstriction. They allow you to temporarily eliminate nasal congestion, help to remove pus from the body. The most popular are "Rinazolin", "Naftizin", "Vibrocil". The duration of their use should not exceed 7 days. Otherwise, addiction can occur.

Rinsing of the nasal cavity with the help of special solutions have proven themselves well. Such procedures should be started as soon as the nasal congestion has been eliminated and breathing has been normalized. For this, salt solutions and furacilin-based products are used.

The best option is to rinse the nose in a hospital setting. In case of urgent need, such a procedure can be performed at home, but only with strict adherence to the correct algorithm of actions.

As a supplement, local complex medicines are prescribed. This therapy begins immediately after cleaning, rinsing and unblocking the nasal passages. Homeopathic preparations are often used in the form of drops - "Aflubin", "Euphorbium", "Larinol" and some others.

Allergic pansinusitis is treated with antihistamines. Such drugs relieve mucosal inflammation and minimize the harm from drug therapy. The most effective of these are Erius and Loratadin.

As for corticosteroid drugs, they are indicated for acute forms of the disease. We are talking about such hormonal agents as "Prednisolone" and "Hydrocortisone".

Ethnoscience

Pansinusitis, which can be treated with folk remedies, is a dangerous disease. Therefore, the use of recipes from the arsenal of traditional medicine should be justified and agreed with the attending physician. Otherwise, there is a high likelihood of a worsening of the clinical picture and causing even greater harm to health. What folk remedies help to effectively fight this disease?

  • Rinsing the nasal cavity with special decoctions.The following herbs are used for their preparation: Kalanchoe, raspberry, calendula, St. John's wort, sage and others. Pour one tablespoon of the herb with a liter of boiling water and leave for 40 minutes. A slightly warm broth is poured into the nostrils and then blown out.
  • Treatment of pansinusitis with inhalation is also effective. This procedure should be carried out over a steam bath based on eucalyptus, chamomile, sage and oregano. Inhalation is strictly prohibited for patients with heart and respiratory diseases.
  • Warming up has proven itself well - an excellent tool to reduce the intensity of inflammation of the mucous membrane. This will require regular salt or sand. The selected substance must be heated in a pan and placed in an airtight bag. It is applied to the soft facial tissues in the area of the nasal sinuses (warming up is contraindicated in purulent and polypous pansinusitis).
  • Don't forget about ointments and tamponade. Take cotton-gauze turundas and soak them with Kalanchoe juice, honey and aloe. Next, place the tampons in the nasal openings (for a maximum of 20 minutes). This will help relieve nasal congestion and reduce inflammation.

A puncture can be used as a more radical method of treatment. Such a procedure is in demand when drug therapy was ineffective or completely ineffective. A puncture of one of the walls of the nasal sinus allows you to quickly remove pus and protect the patient from possible complications.

Helpful advice and prevention

The main task in the prevention of any disease is to enhance the protective functions of the body. This helps him to independently fight viral ailments. We recommend hardening, daily breathing exercises and physical exercises. Improved blood circulation and increased oxygen concentration contribute to the rapid elimination of viral foci by the body's immune cells.

Also, remember to follow these simple rules:

  • avoid excessive dryness of indoor air (not less than 50 percent);
  • in case of pansinusitis, postpone swimming in the pool or in the sea until complete recovery;
  • drink plenty of fluids (this helps to thin the mucus);
  • eat properly and regularly;
  • lead an active lifestyle;
  • give up bad habits (smoking, drinking alcohol);
  • replace tea and coffee with rosehip broth.

Always listen to your body; at the first sign of pansinusitis, see your doctor immediately. We do not recommend self-medication. The symptoms of this ailment are deceiving and can be easily confused with a common cold or runny nose. Headache, nasal congestion does not go away for a long time? Do not hesitate, make an appointment with a doctor.
