Methods for treating herpes in the nose

The herpes virus is highly contagious and tenacious. The only thing is that even with the current level of development of medicine, there is still no reliable medicine that can completely cure herpes. All the drugs at our disposal can only weaken the external manifestations and translate the virus into a "dormant form". Most often, herpes sores pop up on the mucous membranes: in the nose or on the lips. It looks very unaesthetic, so you always want to get rid of them as soon as possible. And it is necessary to start treatment of herpes in the nose when the first symptoms appear.

The main symptoms

In the first days after infection, the herpes virus does not externally manifest itself in any way. Although the state of health usually deteriorates sharply. Muscle pain, dizziness, weakness and other signs of intoxication appear. At this time, the carrier of the virus may not yet understand that he is sick, attributing poor health to overwork or a cold, but at the same time he may already infect others.

After a few days, other symptoms become apparent:

  • Redness in small areas of the mucous membranes (in the nose they may not be noticed).
  • Severe itching, feeling of tightness of the skin.
  • Increase in body temperature - from insignificant to 38OWITH.
  • Small watery blisters form on the reddened areas.
  • In place of the bursting bubbles, wet sores remain.
  • Swelling and inflammation appear around the ulcer.
  • The ulcers dry up and become covered with crusts, which peel off after a few days.

If untreated, this process can last up to two weeks, and the scabs spread to neighboring areas of the body.

It is imperative to treat herpes, which popped up for the first time, especially if it appeared in a child or a pregnant woman. During pregnancy, not only she gets hit by the virus, but also the unborn baby, whose nervous system the virus can cause serious harm.

When a herpes appears in the nose, the doctor will tell you how to treat it. He will correctly determine the type and stage of the disease, prescribe several drugs at once, which will ensure the fastest elimination of the external manifestations of the virus and prevent its subsequent activation. If you have been familiar with your herpes for a long time, then you can fight it yourself using proven folk methods.

Traditional methods

There are a lot of folk ways how to cure herpes in the nose, so it is impossible to describe all of them. Here are only the most effective ones that really help to quickly get rid of the problem and cannot harm:

  1. Propolis tincture (alcohol) is one of the best natural anti-inflammatory drugs, which also has an antiseptic effect. It can be used in its pure form, cauterizing sores or diluted in half with water - to rinse the nose.
  2. Essential oils. Some of them are real natural antibiotics, destructive for most microbes, including the herpes virus. They are applied pointwise to the affected skin with a cotton swab several times a day. The strongest: fir, eucalyptus, juniper, cinnamon, clove, rosemary, tea tree.
  3. Aloe juice. It is best to apply after the watery bubbles have burst. Aloe quickly heals ulcers, accelerating the regeneration of damaged mucous membranes, relieves inflammation, and prevents cracking. It is more useful not to squeeze the juice in advance, but to cut off a piece of the leaf and wipe the damaged areas with the pulp. If the wounds are deep in the nose, then you can drip the juice inside.
  4. Calendula applique. Calendula flowers have a strong anti-inflammatory and wound healing effect. They must be crushed so that a homogeneous powder is obtained, then mixed with zinc ointment or petroleum jelly and applied to the affected areas of the mucous membrane 2-3 times a day.
  5. Garlic juice. A strong natural antibiotic that kills almost all pathogens with which it comes into contact. Helps prevent further spread of the virus through the mucous membranes, relieves inflammation, reduces itching.
  6. Baking soda. Well softens mucous membranes, helps to exfoliate crusts faster, relieves swelling and irritation. Mix a little soda with a few drops of water to make an ointment, and apply to the affected areas. A solution of baking soda (1 tsp for half a glass of water) can be used to rinse your nose.
  7. Juice or alcoholic tincture of celandine. It quickly heals wounds and ulcers, has a detrimental effect on the virus, and prevents the spread of sores. Apply pointwise to the affected area several times a day.

If, when using the remedy you have chosen, itching and inflammation does not go away, and the virus continues to spread in the nose or spreads to the upper lip, then it is better to seek help from a doctor or start using modern pharmaceutical preparations on your own.

Pharmacy preparations

The main tool that will help to quickly transfer the herpes virus to an inactive stage is anti-herpes drugs. They were specially designed for this purpose, therefore they have a powerful directional effect. They are issued in the form:

  • tablets: "Acyclovir", "Famciclovir", "Valtrex", "Genferon" and others;
  • ointments and gels: "Erazaban", "Viru-Merz", "Panavir", synthomycin, zinc, sulfuric, etc .;
  • plasters: "Zovirax".

This allows you to simultaneously fight the virus from the outside and from the inside. It is also necessary to activate the defenses of organisms with the help of immunomodulators: "Immunal", "Immuniks", "Taktivin" or extracts of medicinal plants: echinacea, eleutherococcus, ginseng.

Herbal teas from chamomile, rose hips, calendula, elecampane have a general tonic effect, which is better to replace black tea and coffee until recovery.

Pharmaceutical herpes medicines are dispensed without a prescription, and most of them are inexpensive. That is why many are already abandoning folk methods in favor of pharmacies that guarantee a quick cure. However, before using such drugs, you must carefully study the instructions and do not exceed the recommended dosages.

If the herpes virus has become active during pregnancy, it is imperative to see a doctor as soon as possible. Only he will be able to choose a drug that will protect the unborn child from the effects of herpes and at the same time will not harm him. Treatment with folk remedies in such a situation may not give a quick effect and allow the virus to multiply unhindered in the body.

Prevention of infection

With herpes, no one is sent to sick leave, which means that there is no guarantee that one of your colleagues will not be the carrier of the virus tomorrow. And even more so, it will not be possible to avoid close communication when one of the family members is infected with herpes. But this does not mean that in a few days you will have to experience all the "delights" of this state. Simple preventive measures will help to avoid infection:

  • do not share utensils, towels, hygiene items with an infected person;
  • wash hands before eating, after using the toilet, after direct contact with a sick person;
  • do not touch the infected person's face, refuse kissing and intimate contact until the crusts fall off.

As a preventive measure, you can lubricate the nasal passages with oxolinic ointment 2-3 times a day. A good preventive effect is obtained by taking immunomodulators: extracts of ginseng, echinacea, gamma globulin.

When the first symptoms appear: itching, redness, a burning sensation on the mucous membranes, an antiviral drug should be taken, and this area should be treated with an anti-herpes ointment. This way you can avoid the formation of sores.

It is much less likely to "catch" herpes in a person with strong immunity. And even if it is present in the body, good immunity is able to restrain its external manifestations for a long time. Therefore, to strengthen the body's defenses, it is necessary to take all possible measures. This is a rejection of bad habits, proper nutrition, enough sleep, tempering procedures.
