Snot

Snot flows from the nose like water

A runny nose flow is called rhinorrhea. If transparent mucus is constantly flowing from the nose, this indicates that the body has turned on a protective reaction and is actively fighting against harmful bacteria and viruses. Thus, when snot flows, this should be regarded as a signal of disturbances in natural processes occurring in the nasal cavity. These kinds of problems have an adverse effect on the respiratory system: the trachea, bronchi and lungs.

Even if it seems to you that liquid transparent snot is a completely harmless symptom, it cannot be ignored. Treatment should be started immediately. After all, such a runny nose can provoke the appearance of many very serious diseases. First of all, let's define the reasons that caused the nasal waterfall.

Why snot flow

Liquid snot, like water, is more uncomfortable than a thick runny nose. They appear due to the fact that an infection gets on the mucous membrane in the nose, provoking its swelling and the development of the inflammatory process.

"Why does the snot flow like a stream?" - such a question must have crossed the mind of everyone who has experienced all the delights of colds. First of all, you need to take into account the color of the discharge, since it is a reflection of the processes occurring in the body and can additionally inform about the stage of the ongoing disease. Transparent liquid snot in an adult occurs when:

  • infectious and inflammatory process;
  • rhinitis and its varieties;
  • sinusitis in its various forms;
  • sinusitis;
  • allergies.

Let's take a closer look at several options.

  1. The man noticed that he suddenly had a terrible runny nose. About a couple of hours ago, as they say, nothing foreshadowed, but here it just floods - snot is running like water. In addition, a burning sensation is felt inside the nasal passages, complementing the general discomfort. An adult's snot in a stream may indicate that he has caught an acute respiratory infection, which is just beginning to develop. In this case, after a certain time, such discharge thickens and thoroughly clogs the nose. As a rule, ARI lasts no more than 14 days. For the treatment of such a cold, it is advisable to use modern medicines.
  2. Sometimes it happens that a liquid runny nose in an adult appears, as they say, out of the blue - without reference to the disease. In principle, this is possible after a person has been in the cold for some time or after active sports (this is the answer to the question of why snot flows on the street). Such discharge is not dangerous and quickly goes away on its own. You do not need to treat anything, since they are just a protective reflex of the body.
  3. If you notice that snot drips when you bend over, you need to see a specialist immediately. When snot flows from the nose, like water, when tilted, this is the first sign that a dangerous pathology begins to develop - a maxillary cyst. If adequate treatment is not started on time, it can provoke a number of complications.
  4. If a person asserts: “I have a severe runny nose, it flows from my nose and is annoyed by constant sneezing” exclusively in a particular season or in a particular situation, this indicates an allergic reaction. To stop the nasal waterfall, it is sometimes enough to simply eliminate the allergen. If runny nose runs out, you can also use nasal sprays and regularly rinse your nasal passages. Allergies, as a rule, are accompanied by a number of other symptoms: for example, lacrimation and redness of the face. Often a person himself knows what causes an allergic reaction in him, but it will still be better if a doctor does it. The final diagnosis is made after the doctor receives the results of the necessary tests.

What are the symptoms of liquid discharge?

In addition to the fact that a sick person is annoyed by a runny nose, snot, like water, he can also suffer from a general deterioration in well-being, headache, nasal congestion, and difficulty breathing. In some cases, the temperature rises, sneezing becomes more frequent, and tears involuntarily come out.

If an adult's snot is constantly flowing, of course, there can be no question of a normal sense of smell. Burning and scratching sensations cause significant discomfort. The nasal mucosa swells significantly. This swelling interferes with natural drainage - secretions begin to accumulate inside the nasal cavity, creating ideal conditions for the development of harmful microorganisms.

What to do if a runny nose is like water

If you have a cold, you have a profuse runny nose, runny nose, you can cope with the discharge if you do not wait until it dries up by itself, but help them run out faster. This will require eliminating the infection from which the nasal cavity has suffered. For this purpose, it is recommended to do elementary procedures with a pronounced therapeutic effect:

  • steam inhalation;
  • washing the nasal passages;
  • an increase in the volume of warm liquid drunk per day;
  • taking additional vitamin C.

If snot, like water, in adults or children appeared due to exposure to an allergen, then it is imperative to get rid of them. First of all, we eliminate all kinds of particles that provoke allergies. In other words, we use exclusively hypoallergenic bedding, do daily wet cleaning in the house, avoid places where plants that cause allergic reactions bloom, and so on.

When contact with the allergen is interrupted, the profuse runny nasal discharge will cease.

If it is not possible to protect yourself from all allergens, the doctor prescribes special medications:

  • antihistamines (for example, Suprastin, Zirtek, Tavegil);
  • vasoconstrictor (for example, "Rinazolin", "Naphthyzin", "Sanorin").

Post factum

You should always remember that an ignored runny nose can cause a serious blow to health. You don't have to worry too much if only:

  • runny nose after being physically loaded;
  • nasal discharge is just allergic rhinitis.

Any other case, when you do not know why an adult's snot is constantly flowing, requires urgent consultation and examination by an experienced specialist who will establish the correct diagnosis, prescribe adequate and, most importantly, timely treatment.

Of course, the method of treatment directly depends on the diagnosis made by the doctor. After all, snot is only a symptom of a developing disease, therefore, it will not be possible to do with one nasal instillation with special drops. It is impossible to cure the disease by influencing only the common cold. Therefore, therapy must be comprehensive.
