Throat treatment

Tonsil lavage procedure

The leading role in the development of purulent tonsillitis is played by bacterial pathogens, as well as the patient's immunity. Therefore, antibiotic therapy is the main treatment for these conditions. However, the use of this group of drugs is associated with a decrease in immunity, the development of dysbiosis, toxic damage to the liver and kidneys. That is why any auxiliary measures that prevent exacerbations, reduce the duration of antibiotic use, are relevant.

Tonsil flushing is most widespread in chronic tonsillitis.

The structure of the tonsils is characterized by multiple depressions, crypts and lacunae, in which the remains of dead epithelial cells, leukocytes accumulate, forming purulent foci. In the same places, food debris also lingers, creating extremely favorable conditions for the development of pathogens. Glandular lavage is used to prevent bacterial growth.

Cleansing tonsils at home

To clean the tonsils at home, you need the following tools at hand:

  • disposable syringe with a volume of 20 ml;
  • antiseptic solution used for rinsing;
  • container for spitting out excess solution.

Furacilin, a weak solution of potassium permanganate, is used as a means used for washing the tonsils in chronic tonsillitis. It is also possible to use chlorhexidine, miramistin. The procedure for washing the tonsils is to direct a stream of solution towards the abscess and, by moving the piston, wash it. If necessary, it is recommended to use multiple attempts.

In this case, the patient should not throw his head back excessively so that the liquid does not enter the respiratory tract. The washed-out purulent focus, together with the remnants of the solution, spits out into the prepared container. Such a procedure is carried out daily, after each meal.

Among the advantages of this method are the following factors:

  • availability and safety;
  • the use of a disposable syringe, which is the key to compliance with antiseptics;
  • the possibility of carrying out the procedure in patients of different ages with concomitant severe pathology;

Using this technique, it is possible to wash the tonsils during pregnancy.

The main disadvantage of the method is the inconvenience in conducting, when the procedure is carried out directly by the patient. Flushing the tonsils at the ENT doctor allows it to be carried out more efficiently.

Professional actions of a specialist allow you to achieve maximum effect and evaluate the results visually. In addition, otolaryngologists for the procedure often use such effective drugs as staphylococcal bacteriophage or pyobacteriophage, which have a pronounced antibacterial effect.

Gargling

At home, it is better to replace the procedure using a syringe for washing with throat gargles, which do not require additional instruments for carrying out. In addition, they allow you to carry out these activities several times during the day.

For self-rinsing, it is possible to use more affordable means. An equally significant effect is achieved when using decoctions of herbs such as chamomile, calendula, sage. Salt and soda solution, in which the amount of the dry component is one teaspoon per half liter of boiled water, has become widespread. To increase efficiency, 2 drops of an alcoholic solution of iodine are added to a glass with the prepared solution.

Certain requirements are imposed on the solutions used for rinsing the throat. Their temperature should be about 40 degrees, which provides a comfortable rinsing environment. The duration of the procedure is 2-3 minutes. This consumes one glass of solution.

Using hardware techniques

Washing the lacunae of the tonsils is carried out not only with the use of a syringe. How ENT doctors wash the tonsils depends on the technical equipment of the treatment center. It is possible to cleanse the tonsils using an apparatus based on vacuum suction of the contents. The device covers the surface of the tonsil with special suction cups and carries out suction movements. This allows pus to flow freely into the oral cavity or into a special receiver mounted in the device.

The effectiveness of this procedure is many times higher than when washing the tonsils with a solution from a syringe. The procedure is gentle, does not have a traumatic effect on adjacent tissues. At the same time, it is possible to clean remote and hard-to-reach areas. Such procedures are possible even for pregnant women in the second trimester.

The most effective remedy currently used for cleansing tonsils is the Tonsillor ultrasound machine.

An additional positive quality of this apparatus is the ability to carry out phonophoresis by it. In this case, appropriate nozzles are used, and with the help of ultrasound, medicinal substances are injected directly into the lacunae of the tonsils.

The advantages of this device, in addition to the purposefulness of the action:

  • the possibility of the simultaneous use of antiseptics and drugs that improve the healing of damaged tonsil epithelium;
  • the use of local anesthesia;
  • the possibility of carrying out the procedure in children;
  • safety, because using this technology, it is impossible to damage nearby tissues or the tonsil itself;
  • lack of allergic reactions.

The ultrasonic wave itself has a beneficial effect on the amygdala, which accelerates the death of bacteria and has restorative properties.

To date, there is sufficient experience in the use of this device, which allows us to draw conclusions about its effectiveness and the possibility of long-term remission in patients using it. The ease of use also contributes to widespread use, since all stages of the procedure, from cleansing the tonsils to the sanitation of foci, are carried out in one session.

Disadvantages of using "Tonsillor"

The disadvantages of "Tonsillor" include the limitations of its use in a certain category of patients. The following pathological conditions are contraindications for carrying out this hardware washing of the tonsils:

  • pregnancy all over;
  • acute stage of the process;
  • tuberculosis;
  • oncopathology;
  • hypertension of any genesis;
  • concomitant severe diseases, especially from the cardiovascular system;
  • retinal disinsertion.

These limitations are due precisely to ultrasonic exposure. In addition, despite the use of anesthetics, discomfort during the procedure may occur. As for the number of necessary procedures, this is decided by the attending physician who is observing the patient. It is also determined with the most successful time for their holding. It is considered optimal to carry out 5-10 procedures. The task of any therapeutic measure is to prevent the recurrence of the disease and maintain remission for a long time. It is recommended to carry out preventive tonsil lavage twice a year.

The treatment process for chronic tonsillitis is not limited only to washing the tonsils.

The effect is achieved only with complex treatment, including restorative measures, as well as actions that help to increase the patient's immunity. In severe cases, when chronic tonsillitis goes into a decompensated stage, the only treatment is to remove the tonsils.
