Throat treatment

Gargling with chronic tonsillitis

Chronic tonsillitis is characterized by hyperemic, enlarged tonsils, purulent foci that fill the lacunae or accumulate in the follicles. The main complaint of patients is a sore throat. Since the general condition does not change significantly, local procedures play an important role in the treatment. The actual question is how to gargle with chronic tonsillitis, what means are preferable for the procedures.

Benefits of the procedure

Local procedures do not have a systemic effect on the body, their action is characterized by purposefulness. Therefore, gargling is safe. The procedure is limited only by the age of the children. Its use is possible in patients with cancer, severe disorders of the cardiovascular system, pregnancy, with high rates of hyperthermia.

The disadvantage is the low efficiency of the procedure. It is rarely possible to wash purulent plugs by rinsing the throat. At the same time, such procedures are useful for moisturizing the throat and reducing pain. They are part of a comprehensive treatment and preventive measures that are used to achieve long-term remission.

Procedure for disease remission

Gargling in chronic tonsillitis has some features, depending on the stage of the disease, exacerbation or remission. Tonsil lavage is an important part of preventive measures for chronic tonsillitis in remission. Despite the high efficiency of procedures using the Tonsillor apparatus, gargling is also used in the remission stage of the disease. This procedure is aimed at flushing out food debris, dead cells that accumulate in the lacunae and crypts of the tonsils and contribute to the development of putrefactive processes. In order to prevent an exacerbation of the disease, it is recommended to gargle the throat after each meal.

An effective solution used in this case is a hypertonic solution, in which one teaspoon of salt is dissolved in a glass of purified water. The regular implementation of such procedures helps to prevent relapse.

Saline is a safe throat gargle that can be used all the time.

Its action prevents the formation of crusts on the tonsils, helps to reduce swelling. Periodically, once a week, it is possible to carry out the procedure using antiseptic solutions.

Local treatment for relapse of the disease

With the appearance of pain in the throat, the development of relapses, the most common solutions are:

  • furacilin;
  • potassium permanganate solution;
  • iodine solution;
  • Miramistin;
  • Chlorhexidine;
  • Chlorophyllipt;
  • hydrogen peroxide;
  • phytopreparations.

The exacerbation of the process is characterized by an inflammatory process and the activation of pathogenic microbes. The means used in this case must have the following qualities:

  • security;
  • availability;
  • ease of preparation;
  • lack of irritating effect on the mucous membrane;
  • be active against disease-causing agents.

Since an exacerbation of chronic tonsillitis is characterized by a sore throat, the use of solutions that help soften the inflamed mucous membrane of the throat and tonsils is paramount. An affordable and effective remedy that has a soothing effect on the inflamed mucous membrane of the tonsils is a soda solution. It contains a teaspoon of baking soda for 200 ml of water.

A solution prepared at home is also effective, which in its composition resembles sea water. In it, in addition to soda and salt in equal proportions, there are 2-3 drops of an alcohol solution of iodine. Iodine, a strong antiseptic agent, has a depressing effect on many pathogenic pathogens, enhancing the action of the solution. As for baking soda, its emollient effect helps to reduce pain.

The pharmaceutical drug Iodinol, which consists of alcohol, an aqueous solution of iodine and its salt, has a similar effect. However, referring to the use of iodine-containing products, one must remember about a possible allergic reaction. It is manifested by urticaria, rhinitis, lacrimation. In cases where an allergic reaction was noted with external use of iodine, its use for gargling is not allowed.

Furacilin, manganese solution - means widely used for the treatment of various tonsillitis. In this case, their antimicrobial action is used. The spread of these solutions is facilitated by ease of use, the ability to maintain their activity for several days after preparation.

Procedure tactics

The rules for carrying out the procedure using such solutions are similar:

  • gargling is done between meals;
  • in one procedure, a glass of the prepared solution is used;
  • gargling in the throat is carried out for 15-20 seconds;
  • the number of procedures is at least 5 per day.

Procedures using Miramistin and Chlorhexidine are carried out in a slightly different way. These drugs do not require any dilution. They are offered by the pharmacy chain in a ready-to-use form. According to the instructions, after typing a tablespoon of the solution into the throat, it is recommended to rinse for 20-30 seconds. For a longer preservation of the effect for 1-2 hours after the procedure, it is not recommended to consume liquid or food.

These medicines are aqueous solutions, which allows them to be used in patients with diabetes or in childhood. However, their use is limited in patients who are allergic to the constituents.

All antiseptic agents used alternate with other solutions, since they can be addictive.

Traditional medicine

Traditional medicine in the form of herbal decoctions occupy a strong position among the methods of treating inflammatory processes in the throat. Popular herbal remedies are

  • sage;
  • chamomile;
  • calendula;
  • horsetail;
  • yarrow;
  • Oak bark.

They are brewed, insisted and used warm for local treatment.

For gargling with purulent forms of tonsillitis, a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide has also become widespread. The use of this agent is due to its ability to dissolve, turn purulent foci in the tonsils into foam. However, the drug is not only the strongest antiseptic, but also an oxidizing agent that can have a negative effect on healthy oral mucosa. It is dangerous to accidentally swallow such a solution, as well as an increase in the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in the solution used for rinsing. Stirring a teaspoon of peroxide in a glass of warm water is most acceptable.

When referring to rinsing the throat in chronic tonsillitis, it is necessary to consult a doctor who will clarify the diagnosis and treatment tactics. Gargling is used only as a comprehensive treatment. Chronic tonsillitis is a pathology that leads to the development of serious complications and disability. In severe cases, bicillin prophylaxis is used, immunostimulating therapy is carried out.
