Sinusitis

Treatment of sinusitis with honey

The benefits of beekeeping products have been known to people since ancient times. On the basis of apiproducts, there are recipes for many diseases, including the treatment of sinusitis with honey. Many symptoms of maxillary sinusitis can be eliminated or weakened by using bee honey, propolis, bee bread. These natural substances help fight off disease-causing bacteria, boost immunity, and reduce inflammation. Using apitherapy, you can cure a person from sinusitis much faster than with medication alone.

Useful properties of honey and its correct choice

Bee nectar is a unique natural product that can help a person overcome many ailments. It is used in the treatment of the upper and lower respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular system, diseases of the joints, kidneys, liver, burns and wounds. It has the following beneficial properties:

  • fights against pathogenic bacteria;
  • removes toxins from the body;
  • suppresses the activity of viruses;
  • accelerates wound healing;
  • relieves inflammation, swelling, incl. allergic;
  • enhances immunity;
  • enhances the effect of taking medications and partially neutralizes their side effects;
  • weakly irritates tissues, stimulating their activity.

This medical effect of honey is possible due to its unique chemical composition, which includes the following elements:

  • sugar (fructose, glucose);
  • acids (citric, grape, malic);
  • vitamins of group B, as well as E, C, PP;
  • trace elements (sodium, calcium, potassium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, boron, etc.).

As noted by the researchers, the bactericidal activity of honey only increases with time, since chemical transformations occur inside the product during storage: the amount of catalase decreases, and the amount of hydrogen peroxide increases. The healing capabilities of honey also depend on its botanical origin: lime, acacia and buckwheat are the most active against bacteria.

All of the above-described beneficial properties are characteristic only of a natural product that has not been heat-treated. The maximum that can be done with thickened honey is to slightly melt it to a liquid state in a water bath (not higher than 60 degrees) so that it can be mixed with other substances. The product is stored for a long time at a temperature of 5 to 20 degrees, it is undesirable to freeze it.

It is best to purchase the product directly in apiaries or on the market from trusted beekeepers, so as not to become a victim of deception.

Artificial honey not only will not help in the treatment, but can also harm a person. It is also better not to buy a product packaged in small jars in supermarkets, since preservatives are often added there.

Medical therapy for maxillary sinusitis

People have been using honey for sinusitis for a very long time, but in the 20th century, serious researchers began to study its healing qualities. In particular, the Bulgarian scientist S. Mladenov treated more than 1,300 patients with various diseases of the respiratory tract, including 122 with acute and chronic sinusitis. The beekeeping product was applied topically, internally, in the form of inhalation and electrophoresis. The result speaks for itself - over 88% of patients noted a stable therapeutic effect.

You can use honey in the treatment of sinusitis, both in pure form and as part of various preparations with other natural ingredients (herbs, root vegetable juices).

A positive trend is shown by the combination of pharmaceuticals with pharmaceuticals. The product can be used to combat the disease in the form of:

  • laying tampons and turundas;
  • drops in the nose;
  • oral administration with milk or tea;
  • steam and aerosol inhalation;
  • ointments and applications;
  • rinses.

There are few contraindications for apitherapy, the main thing is individual intolerance to beekeeping products with the development of an allergic reaction. The product should be used with caution by patients with diabetes mellitus and young children; recommendations must be given by the attending physician. Help from sinusitis and other derivatives of the activity of bees - propolis and bee bread.

Traditional medicine recipes with honey

In almost all collections of folk recipes, an important place is occupied by chapters that describe how to treat sinusitis with honey. During all procedures, you need to cleanse the nasal passages using drops with a vasoconstrictor effect. The methods used are very different, but they are all easy to apply at home.

Treatment with honey can be done using lavage. It is performed with the aim of thinning thick mucus and easily evacuating it from the accessory pockets and nasal passages. The use of a beekeeping product helps not only to cleanse the nasal cavity and the connecting canal from exudate, but also to disinfect the epithelial layer, which is lined with the nasopharynx. This irrigation is performed using a medical syringe with the needle removed. In this case, a 20% aqueous solution of natural honey is used: 20 g of a liquid product are mixed with 80 g of warm boiled water.

They help well with sinusitis applications with turunda or cotton swabs. For them, a pure apiproduct is taken or a mixture with pharmaceuticals is prepared. In its pure form, honey causes severe irritation of the mucous membranes and discomfort, therefore it is usually mixed with anesthetics.

  • A medicinal solution is prepared as follows: 5 ml of honey is diluted in 15 ml of water, 0.1 g of diphenhydramine and 2 g of anestezin are added to the resulting mixture (you can grind the tablets into powder). Gauze turundas or cotton pads rolled into a tube are dipped in the medicine and inserted into the nasal passages of the lying patient for 30 minutes. This treatment must be repeated up to 10 days, 1-2 times.
  • For another option, you will need 25 g of lanolin, 10 vaseline, 8 g of propolis and honey, 2 g of anesthesin. The principle of application is the same as for the previous medicine.
  • Another recipe: 25 g of crystallized product in combination with 0.5 g of anesthesin is applied to a gauze turunda. The application should be kept for 5 to 15 minutes, depending on the patient's feelings.
  • Multi-component recipe. Dissolve equal parts of cow's milk, honey, onion juice, grated laundry soap in a steam bath until a homogeneous emulsion is achieved. The ointment is stored in the refrigerator, used for lotions with tampons.

A honey-based remedy with baking soda and vegetable oil has an active effect, quickly suppressing the effect of bacteria. All ingredients are taken in a volume of 1 teaspoon (soda - without a slide) and brought together. The patient lies on his side, a cotton swab dipped in the solution, is inserted for 10-20 minutes into the nostril, which turned out to be higher, then everything is repeated with a different nasal passage. The strong bactericidal effect of the drug also has a downside: the patient may experience unpleasant sensations (pinching and burning).

Such a compress as a honey cake is widely known. A tablespoon of liquid apiproduct is added to such an amount of flour to make a plastic, non-spreading dough. A lump of dough is divided into two equal parts and placed on the sides of the wings of the nose on the maxillary sinuses. You need to keep the compress for several hours, so it is recommended to do it before bedtime.

Honey-based nose drops

The positive effect of nasal drops based on apiproducts is noted by many experts. These remedies help relieve unpleasant symptoms, enhance the effect of medications and help restore breathing through the nose. Unlike lotions and turundas, instillation does not require a lot of time.A large number of folk recipes for nasal drops are known, the most proven ones are:

  • Drops with aloe juice. Aloe leaf is ground in a meat grinder and squeezed through several layers of gauze, then mixed in equal parts with honey. If necessary, it is slightly diluted with water and dripped into the nostrils, 2 drops three times a day. Nectar fights against the causative agent of the disease, and aloe weakens the inflammatory process. You can enhance the effect of the remedy by introducing callanchoe juice or baking soda at the tip of a spoon into the recipe.
  • Grate a small onion or chop finely, pour a glass of warm water and leave for 2 hours. Strain the resulting tincture and pour 20 g of bee nectar into it. You can instill liquid into the nasal passages 3 times a day, 2 drops or rinse your nose with it. When using the product, a very quick cleansing effect is noted. Because of the pungent odor, children are better off offering a milder option.
  • Beetroot honey drops. 3 tablespoons of freshly squeezed red root vegetable juice is mixed with 2 teaspoons of the apiproduct, if necessary, add warm water. Can be infused in 2 drops into the nostrils or used as an application for 15 minutes.
  • Equal parts of celandine broth, aloe juice and honey, brought together, are poured into the nasal passages. To get a decoction of celandine, you need to pour 2 tablespoons of chopped dried herbs with a glass of water, boil for one minute, leave for half an hour and strain.
  • Eucalyptus drops. An alcoholic solution of eucalyptus "Chlorophyllipt" (15 drops) is added to a mixture of strong black tea and bee nectar. Bury according to the standard scheme.

Means based on other beekeeping products

Other apiproducts, in particular bee bread and propolis, are also popular in the treatment of maxillary sinusitis. Perga is a pollen of plants, compacted in a honeycomb. You can buy it from beekeepers or at the pharmacy, it is orange or yellow.

Perga can be eaten in the morning on an empty stomach, without drinking anything, or chewed together with a honeycomb and a cap (a lid that seals the honeycomb), this has an immunomodulatory and antitoxic effect on the body, weakened by the disease.

Propolis (bee glue) is a waste product of bees, the origin of which is still a matter of controversy among researchers. Its distinctive feature is that it is not afraid of high temperatures, and does not lose its properties upon contact with hot water, boiling and melting. Bee glue consists of natural resins, wax, essential oils, pollen, minerals, vitamins and sugars. Basically, alcohol (10 and 20%) and aqueous solutions of glue are used.

Propolis-based preparations help with the acute and sluggish form of maxillary sinusitis.

  • Pharmacy alcoholic tincture of propolis (20%) in the amount of 5 drops is reduced with petroleum jelly and honey (1 teaspoon each). If there is pain, add a few drops of novocaine (if there is no allergy to it). The ointment is placed in the nasal passages and, with the head thrown back, is held until it dissolves completely. Fluid with mucus flowing down the throat should be spit out.
  • In the mornings and evenings, rinse your nose with a solution of 5 g of honey and 20 g of bee glue tincture.
  • Dissolve a pea-sized piece of propolis in 100 ml of sunflower oil in a water bath. Instill 3 drops daily to prevent exacerbations of chronic sinusitis.
