Sinusitis

Massage for sinusitis

For many diseases, doctors recommend that patients undergo a massage procedure. Acupressure helps to accelerate recovery and improve the general condition of the patient. Maxillary sinusitis is no exception. Acupressure massage for sinusitis is prescribed as an addition to traditional therapy. Of course, it will not defeat the disease itself, but it will help traditional medicines to more effectively perform their tasks.

Benefits of acupressure for sinusitis, its types

The acupressure for sinusitis has several main functions:

  • improvement of blood microcirculation in the area of the affected sinus;
  • activation of metabolic processes, an increase in oxygen consumption by tissues;
  • elimination of the feeling of congestion and stagnation in the air chambers;
  • activation of the work of the cilia of the ciliated epithelium, due to which the mucous accumulations more easily leave the accessory pocket;
  • thinning mucus;
  • weakening of pain syndrome in the area of sinuses and headaches;
  • increasing local immunity and performance;
  • increased tone of the nervous system;
  • prevention of recurrence of sinusitis.

The most common sinus massage is therapeutic (used in the acute stage of the disease) and soothing (during the recovery phase). Other types are used much less frequently.

By itself, acupressure is not able to cure a person of sinusitis; it serves as an auxiliary function.

Massage is always prescribed in parallel with taking medications, physiotherapy (UHF, electrophoresis, laser, quartz tube), dry warming and rinsing the nose.

When you can and when you can not do massage

Acupressure for sinusitis should be prescribed by an otolaryngologist, taking into account the patient's condition and the characteristics of the course of the disease. It is usually used in such cases:

  • at an early (catarrhal) stage of the development of the disease;
  • with a chronic or acute course of the disease;
  • in the recovery period to eliminate the consequences of sinusitis.

However, the impact on active points, of which there are more than 150 in the body, does not always give a positive result. There are a number of conditions in which the harm from the procedure may outweigh the benefit from it:

  • sinusitis, complicated by high fever and significant purulent discharge;
  • pregnancy;
  • ulcer of the duodenum and stomach;
  • mental disorders;
  • oncological diseases of the blood and skin, malignant tumors;
  • increased sensitivity and inflammation of the skin of the face;
  • presence of moles, warts or allergies in active spots;
  • puncture or sinusitis.

Massotherapy

This type of acupuncture helps to restore and normalize the functioning of the mucous membranes of the accessory pockets, increases local immunity, and counteracts the recurrence of the disease in its chronic form. However, with purulent sinusitis, massage can be harmful, since the activation of blood circulation and blood flow to the sinus tissues will increase the swelling and can completely block the anastomosis.

The most important points in the treatment procedure are:

  • On the line of the eyebrows, in the center between them, above the bridge of the nose. Responsible for relieving pain and relieving puffiness.
  • In the very center of the forehead. Relieves tension in the muscles of the body.
  • On the cheekbone bone below the pupil. Improves secretion outflow.
  • On the sides of the nasal wings (steam room). Massage the nose with sinusitis normalizes breathing and relieves congestion.
  • At the very base of the skull, above the cervical vertebrae. Neutralizes headache.
  • Between the sternum and the collarbone. Helps with perspiration and coughs.
  • On the upper lip under the nose.
  • Near the outer corners of the eyes.

All acupressure movements should be soft and smooth. Each point is worked out for about 5 minutes, while the patient can sit or lie down. The manipulations are repeated 3 to 5 times a day for 2 weeks.

To consolidate the effect, you can inhale using medicinal herbs half an hour after the procedure.

Soothing massage

It is prescribed after the end of the acute purulent stage. After the suppression of the pathogenic bacteria that provoked the development of the disease, the recovery stage begins. Its duration depends on many factors, including the degree of weakening of the body. Acupuncture helps to mobilize the body's defenses and quickly remove residual effects.

Areas that need to be affected in order to get rid of sinusitis as quickly as possible:

  • On both sides of the spine, near the base of the skull, in the region of the occipital tubercles. Warm up while sitting.
  • Above the maxillary chambers, on the cheekbones under the lower eyelid. The points are massaged at the same time.
  • The supraorbital areas are treated in the "lying position".
  • Between the thoracic vertebrae (3rd and 4th vertebrae between shoulder blades) 1-2 cm from the spinal column. The masseur performs manipulations, and the patient lies on his stomach.
  • On the wrist, 6 cm from the beginning of the thumb, on the extensor side.
  • Along the central part of the skull, 1 cm from the beginning of the hairline.

For soothing acupressure, sudden movements are not recommended. The points are processed in a clockwise circular motion. The entire course is 2 weeks, and one session lasts no more than 10 minutes.

How to properly influence reflex points

There is a whole science of how to properly handle active zones. Each movement has its own special effect, which is best known in advance from an acupuncturist. You can act on the reflex areas in this way:

  • Kneading with a spiral motion with the pad of the thumb.
  • "Injection" or pressure with a fingernail. In this case, the nail should be short, without manicure. After such pressure, the skin first becomes numb and then aches a little.
  • Pressing is done with the middle finger. For rigidity, the bent index finger is pressed against the middle. First, maximum pressure is applied to the reflex zone for a few seconds. Then vibrating movements are performed for about a minute. After that, the pressure gradually decreases.

If the patient is performing self-massage, then it is better for him to sit with his elbows resting on the table top so that the pressure on the active points is even. Paired points located symmetrically on both sides are processed simultaneously and with the same movements. In this case, the finger does not come off the reflex zone during the entire exposure time, and the person listens to his own feelings. To prevent skin irritation and improve the overall effect on the pads of the middle or index fingers, aromatic oils (bergamot, sandalwood, tea tree, cedar, sage, lemon, etc.) are applied.

In order to prevent hypothermia, especially in winter, after the end of all manipulations, the patient must remain in a warm room for at least an hour. Also, during the period of acupressure, it is undesirable for a person to be overexcited.

The use of alcoholic beverages and other substances that stimulate the body is undesirable. This also applies to a hot bath, which can easily be replaced by a warm shower.

Useful tips on how to perform acupressure for sinusitis

Like other manipulations, in order to obtain the best result when massaging reflex points with sinusitis, you need to know the basic rules and secrets of the procedure:

  • massage is carried out daily, while a person must first prepare psychologically for it: calm down and concentrate on the possible positive effect;
  • after consulting a specialist, the patient performs one massage a day and notes the sensations of his body; with positive dynamics, the number of procedures increases to 3-5 per day;
  • all actions are carried out with warm hands;
  • the patient should breathe evenly, calmly and deeply;
  • movements should be smooth and unhurried, the pressing force increases gradually, any sudden actions should be excluded;
  • the occurrence of unpleasant signs (pain, bleeding, fever, dizziness) is a signal to interrupt the procedure and consult a doctor.

The results of acupuncture for each person are manifested in different ways, in some the condition improves after 2-3 procedures, in others only after a week.
