Treatment of cerebral atherosclerosis with conventional folk remedies

Cerebral atherosclerosis is a dangerous pathology that occurs in patients of the older age group. The disease develops when protein and lipid metabolism is disturbed, deposits of atherosclerotic plaques that block blood flow in the vessels of the brain. Lack of therapy leads to dizziness, frequent headaches, memory problems, and stroke. In addition to traditional drug treatment, there are folk remedies, the choice of which takes into account the risk of complications of the disease, the level of evidence and the success of such treatment regimens.

Is it possible to treat atherosclerosis of the vessels of the brain with folk remedies and how successful is it?

The danger of cerebral atherosclerosis lies in the high risk of impairment of cerebral circulation. The associated complications lead to "senile dementia": forgetfulness, gradual loss of short-term, then long-term memory, violation of spatial orientation and temporal boundaries, personality disorder of the psyche. Prevents the consequences of the disease with timely drug treatment aimed at normalizing lipid metabolism and blood pressure, cerebral circulation. It is worth remembering that herbal medicine can only help at the initial stage of the disease.

When choosing alternative medicine schemes, take into account that:

  • the effectiveness of phytopreparations is lower than medicinal ones;
  • when using a mixture of herbs, there is a high risk of side effects due to individual intolerance or allergies;
  • tinctures and extracts on alcohol or alcohol are contraindicated in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, gastritis, esophagitis, peptic ulcer;
  • normalization of body weight and metabolism plays a key role in the treatment of atherosclerosis;
  • choosing herbal remedies, pay attention to which formulations are more effective in metabolic disorders and high cholesterol;
  • in addition to taking herbal remedies, all patients are shown a diet with limited fat intake and a decrease in daily calorie intake;
  • without examination by a doctor, it is impossible to assess the success of the chosen treatment;
  • if therapy with alternative drugs is not effective enough, progressive atherosclerosis with complete blockage of the vessel leads to sudden circulatory disorders, stroke.

What methods of traditional medicine are effective?

To treat atherosclerosis of the cerebral vessels at home, it is necessary to take into account their spectrum of action when choosing herbal remedies. The most recommended are phytoseeds with a hypolipidemic effect, which reduce the formation of harmful lipoproteins, accelerate metabolism and remove cholesterol from the body. Herbs help to improve the metabolism of fats, reducing the manifestations of vasospasm and increasing their tone, preventing blood thickening, containing vitamins and minerals in the composition.

The most popular are the following recipes:

  1. A teaspoon of dry lemon balm, mint, nettle leaves and strawberries are poured into 400 ml of boiling water, insisted for 60-90 minutes and filtered. The resulting infusion is drunk in a glass a day for two to three weeks. After a break of five days, the course is repeated at will.

Multiple charges are recommended for continuation of the course of treatment. To prepare a herbal drink, take equal parts of dry ingredients (10 g), pour 300-400 ml of boiling water, heat over low heat and insist for 1-2 hours in a warm place. Also, medicinal herbs for atherosclerosis of the vessels of the brain are used for the preparation of alcoholic tinctures. Alcohol used as a solvent extracts all of the most beneficial properties from plant materials. For each remedy, two tablespoons of dry pharmaceutical herbs are poured into 300-500 ml of 40% alcohol or vodka, insisted for a week in a dark, cool place.

Unlike infusions on boiling water, you do not need to drink large volumes of liquid, 5-15 drops of the prepared strained extract are enough. Given the irritating effect of ethyl alcohol on the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, add the concentrate to a glass of plain cool water.

Such folk remedies are used for the preparation of one-component alcoholic infusions:

  • dried clover flowers;
  • pods of Japanese sophora;
  • dry walnut partitions;
  • inflorescences and leaves of meadow clover;
  • dry roots and leaves of elecampane.

Certain foods are used as an alternative to treat atherosclerosis. The following recipes are recommended by naturopathic specialists:

  1. To prepare a horseradish decoction, rub the peeled dry rhizomes on a fine grater, pour 2 liters of boiling water and leave for 40 minutes. After straining, a warm drink is consumed in 30-50 ml before meals for 2-4 weeks.

  9. Fatty meat is replaced by sea fish.
  10. Green and herbal teas are helpful.

In order for herbal therapy to lead to positive results, they are treated for a long time (more than two to four months). However, from the use of infusions and decoctions, side effects develop, since the frequent intake of berries and herbs affects the level of acidity of gastric juice, which is manifested by:

  • discomfort in your stomach or intestines;
  • exacerbation of gastritis;
  • indigestion, diarrhea;
  • an unpleasant aftertaste in the mouth;
  • sour belching;
  • nausea, heaviness in the epigastric region.

Tinctures and extracts for alcohol are contraindicated:

  • women during pregnancy;
  • children;
  • with unstable blood pressure;
  • hypertensive type of vegetative-vascular dystonia;
  • diseases of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • liver pathology.

When should you not resort to alternative medicine?

Treatment with alternative methods is considered as the main therapy or additional, to enhance the effect of taking medications. When choosing a scheme for helping a patient with cerebral atherosclerosis, the degree of damage to cerebral arteries, narrowing, blockage is taken into account. It is impossible to determine the stage of the disease without laboratory tests and examination of the vessels of the head. At the initial stages of the disease, the use of folk remedies is relevant.

Herbal medicine is irrational when:

  1. The second stage of the disease, when the first symptoms appear - headaches, tinnitus, forgetfulness.
  2. In the third stage, if thinking is disturbed, memory decreases, episodes of weakness appear in the arms and legs.
  3. The neglected stage, when senile dementia develops, the psyche is disturbed.
  4. Mentally unsatisfactory condition, disorientation, frequent tantrums, crying.
  5. The first signs of severe cerebral ischemia (microstroke), with impaired motor activity, paralysis or paresis of the arms and legs.

In such cases, treatment is required in the conditions of a neurological or general therapeutic hospital with drugs. Prescribed such medications: antiplatelet agents (preventing the formation of blood clots), anti-inflammatory drugs, lipid-lowering (to improve the metabolism of fats and cholesterol synthesis), antihypertensive (lowering blood pressure). In case of a stroke with a threat to the patient's life, emergency surgery is indicated.

Conclusions

Treatment of cerebral atherosclerosis with folk remedies is rational only at the initial stage of the disease. Given the high risk of consequences (gradually progressive impairment of cerebral circulation, the development of senile dementia, dementia, the threat of stroke), doctors strongly advise against resorting to alternative medicine. According to recent studies, herbal remedies are prescribed in addition to the drug regimen, to improve the effect and more quickly normalize metabolism, fats and cholesterol. However, the therapy is based on pharmaceutical drugs according to generally accepted medical treatment protocols.
