Angina

Gargling with propolis tincture

Propolis is a resinous substance produced by bees to seal and disinfect hives. The product has pronounced antimicrobial, immunostimulating and antiphlogistic properties.

Using propolis for angina, you can stop local manifestations of infectious pathology, as well as accelerate the regression of catarrhal processes. A natural antiseptic is used in pharmaceuticals for the production of disinfectant solutions, antibiotics, and local anesthetics. The therapeutic properties of the product are due to the presence of flavonoid compounds in its composition. They provide the propolis tincture with antibacterial and antiviral properties. Gargling with medicinal solutions based on a phytopreparation promotes the destruction of pathogens and the regeneration of inflamed lymphadenoid formations.

Biochemical composition

Treatment of angina with propolis helps to eliminate most of the local manifestations of pathology, which include: inflammation of the tonsils, edema of the palatine arches, purulent plugs in the lacunae of lymphadenoid formations, hyperemia of the mucous throat, etc. The antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties of propolis-based solutions are due to the presence of a large amount of useful substances in its composition.

The product contains more than 200 organic compounds, 40% of which have therapeutic properties:

  • flavonoids;
  • fatty acid;
  • steroids;
  • lactones;
  • thiamine;
  • riboflavin;
  • pyridoxine;
  • retinol;
  • vitamin C;
  • tocopherol;
  • biotin;
  • amino acids;
  • magnesium;
  • cobalt;
  • strontium;
  • calcium;
  • sulfur;
  • silicon.

Alcohol tincture can be used to treat candidal tonsillitis, due to the presence of pinocembrin, an antifungal antioxidant, in its composition.

Pharmacodynamics

How is propolis useful? Angina is an infectious disease that predominantly affects the palatine and pharyngeal tonsils and the posterior pharyngeal wall. Untimely elimination of pathogens leads to the spread of foci of inflammation in the mucous membranes of the ENT organs. The active components of the phytopreparation inhibit the reproductive activity of microbes, which prevents the generalization of pathological processes.

Alcoholic and aqueous propolis tinctures have a number of important therapeutic properties:

  • antioxidant - prevent the formation of free radicals in the body;
  • immunostimulating - increase the activity of protective cells, as a result of which phagocytosis is accelerated (absorption of pathogenic agents by phagocytes);
  • antiphlogistic - inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins, which contributes to the regression of inflammation;
  • antimicrobial - destroy the cellular structures of microbes, which leads to their death;
  • wound healing - accelerate blood microcirculation in the affected tissues, thereby accelerating cellular metabolism and epithelialization of the ciliated epithelium.

Important! The product contains sensitizers that provoke the development of skin dermatitis.

Gargling with antiseptic solutions helps to destroy gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as some strains of viruses and fungi.

Disinfection of the oropharynx stimulates local immunity, resulting in regression of inflammation. Reducing the number of pathogens in the lesions contributes to the detoxification of the body and the relief of local manifestations of the disease.

Operating principle

The use of a phytopreparation in the treatment of respiratory diseases can enhance the effect of antibacterial drugs. For this reason, it is used as an additional agent in the treatment of tonsillitis, laryngitis, rhinopharyngitis and other pathologies of the upper respiratory tract. What is the reason for the therapeutic effect of the antiseptic solution?

The components of the phytopreparation stimulate the activity of phagocytes that absorb pathogenic microorganisms that penetrate the ENT organs. Flavonoid compounds such as acacetin and ermanine increase the concentration of gamma globulins in the body. Stimulating the immune response leads to an increase in the body's resistance and its readiness to resist pathogenic viruses and bacteria.

Systematic gargling with a diluted antiseptic eliminates the symptoms of tonsillitis at the stage of acute inflammation. Due to the immunostimulating effect, the phytopreparation prevents the chronicization of pathological processes. Prophylactic use of the drug reduces the risk of recurrence of infectious ENT diseases of any etiology.

Gargle recipes

Gargling is a physiotherapeutic procedure during which the mucous membrane of the pharynx, tonsils and oral cavity is disinfected. The local effect of the components of the drug stimulates the regression of pathological processes in the tissues, thereby alleviating the symptoms of the disease. In its pure form, propolis alcohol tincture is not used for irrigation of the oropharynx, which is associated with the risk of burns on the mucous membrane.

To prepare the rinse solution, you can use the following recipes:

  1. mix 10 ml (2 tsp) of tincture with 100 ml of saline;
  2. mix 2 tsp. phytopreparation with 150 ml of warm water;
  3. mix the antiseptic with warmed mineral water in a 1: 3 ratio;
  4. dissolve 4-5 drops of tincture in 50 ml of a decoction of chamomile and St. John's wort.

Important! It is undesirable to use alcohol solutions for the rehabilitation of the oropharynx in the presence of mechanical damage.

To soften purulent plugs in the lacunae of the tonsils, you can mix 2 hours of herbal remedies with 1 hour of Kalanchoe juice and 50 ml of warm water. The prepared solution should be drawn into a syringe and rinsed with tonsils under pressure. After the procedure, it is advisable to treat the pharyngeal mucosa with antibacterial local anesthetics.

Preparation of an aqueous solution

The use of alcohol-containing liquids in pediatric therapy is contraindicated due to increased sensitization of the body. To prevent the appearance of allergic reactions, tinctures on water are used to sanitize a sore throat. Weakly concentrated solutions can be used to treat preschool children, as well as women during gestation.

How to prepare a medicine?

  • chop 20 g of propolis;
  • fill it with 200 ml of water;
  • boil the propolis for 10 minutes;
  • strain the cooled solution.

To gargle, dilute 3 tbsp. aqueous tincture in 200 ml of water. It is advisable to perform the procedure at least 3-4 times a day during an exacerbation of inflammation. To enhance the analgesic effect of the drug, you can add 20 ml of thyme broth to it. The plant has a pronounced antiphlogistic and antipyretic effect, which helps to eliminate subfebrile fever.

Recommendations

Propolis for sore throat is a symptomatic remedy with which it is possible to eliminate most of the clinical manifestations of ENT disease. However, the effectiveness of therapy is largely determined by the correct use of the phytopreparation and the regularity of sanitizing procedures. To achieve the desired results in the treatment of acute and chronic tonsillitis, the following recommendations should be taken into account when using rinsing solutions:

  1. dilute the tincture with water or saline solution immediately before use;
  2. heat the antiseptic solution to a temperature of 37-38 degrees;
  3. pronounce during the procedure the sound "s-s-s" in order to better wash the palatine tonsils;
  4. the duration of the procedure should be on average 4-5 minutes;
  5. rinse at least 4 times a day; after throat debridement, do not eat for 30 minutes.

Swallowing a large amount of the medicinal solution may cause stomach pain.

Contraindications

Propolis is one of the products with a high degree of allergenicity due to the presence of caffeic acid esters in its composition. The components of the phytopreparation inhibit the activity of platelets, which promotes the resorption of infiltrates, but prevents blood coagulation. For these reasons, the use of propolis tinctures is contraindicated in:

  • gastritis;
  • eczema;
  • stomach ulcer;
  • blood diseases;
  • allergy tendencies;
  • contact dermatitis.

The alcoholic solution contains enzymes that increase cellular turgor. In this regard, it does not recommend the use of a herbal remedy in the treatment of respiratory diseases in women during gestation.
