Diseases of the nose

Treatment of polyps in the nose with folk remedies

Nasal polyps are small bumps that make it difficult to breathe and feel like a foreign body. These lesions are benign and do not cause much concern at first. Therefore, many believe that the treatment of polyps in the nose with folk remedies will make it possible to completely get rid of the problem without surgery and taking potent drugs. Alas, this is not always the case. It all depends on the size and cause of the formation of polyps.

Reasons for the appearance

The main reason why polyps grow in the nose is chronic inflammation or irritation of the mucous membrane of the nasal passages or sinuses. And already these unpleasant phenomena can be caused by infection, chronic diseases, polluted air, smoking and other negative factors.

The irritated mucous membrane dries up, becomes thin, easily cracks and ceases to perform its direct functions: moisturizing and protecting. Trying to cope with the problem, the body stimulates the active growth of new cells, forming cone-shaped growths on its surface. Having greatly increased in size, they block the nasal passages, make breathing difficult and become palpable.

Treatment of a nasal polyp with folk remedies is theoretically possible. But it is effective only at an early stage, when the formations have not yet grown too much and do not provoke purulent-inflammatory processes in the nasal cavity. Unfortunately, their diagnosis during this period is very difficult, since small polyps are not visible and practically imperceptible, they can only be detected by chance on an X-ray or during a routine examination.

In addition, even if you decide to use exclusively folk remedies, the attending physician must still control the process.

Nasal polyps are quite insidious formations. They can be completely cured only by eliminating the cause that can provoke their appearance. Otherwise, even after some time after surgical removal, they can grow back, let alone folk methods.

A complex approach

Just like traditional therapy, treatment with folk remedies should be comprehensive. Therefore, it should also begin with diagnostics. It is necessary at least to establish what negative factors could provoke their appearance. Some of them must be eliminated: quit smoking, with severe allergies, regularly take antihistamines. The rest will have to be fought for symptomatic signs.

Of the home remedies available for treating nasal polyps, there are:

  • rinsing the nasal cavity;
  • anti-inflammatory drops;
  • natural ointments;
  • warming compresses;
  • steam inhalation;
  • immunomodulators.

It is also advisable to revise the diet and for the entire duration of treatment to abandon spicy, sour, salty foods, semi-finished products containing a large amount of seasonings, artificial flavors, food colors, preservatives. All canned food and smoked meats, non-dietary meats are banned. The amount of sugar will also need to be reduced. It is necessary to closely monitor the temperature of the food, it should not be too hot or very cold.

With this systemic approach, not only the treatment of inflammation in the nasal cavity occurs, but also the general healing of the body. But it must be borne in mind that folk remedies do not work as quickly as modern pharmaceutical preparations of narrowly targeted action. Therefore, it is necessary to tune in to long-term treatment.

The standard course lasts about 1-1.5 months, and then you can interrupt for the same period and, if necessary, repeat it.

What and why to rinse your nose

Before treating nasal polyps with other folk remedies, you need to rinse your nose well. Washing performs several healing functions at once: it washes away dust and dirt that has settled on mucous membranes, moisturizes them and has a therapeutic effect. You can use for washing:

  • Saline solution. It is better if there is natural sea salt (no additives and flavors), but you can also use regular rock salt. Dissolve a teaspoon in half a glass of water, let it settle for a couple of minutes (there is a sediment in poorly purified salt), draw a syringe into 10 ml without a needle and pour it under pressure alternately into each nostril. Repeat 2-3 times.
  • Soda with iodine. Such a solution has strong antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, but with frequent use it dries out the nasal mucosa. Therefore, it should be applied no more than 1 time a day, and then it is imperative to use a medicinal ointment, which will simultaneously moisturize the mucous membranes. For rinsing, a teaspoon is diluted in half a glass of water, drip 10 drops of iodine, stir well.
  • Herbal tinctures. For the preparation of a medicinal tincture, it is better to take: chamomile, calendula, St. John's wort, a series. Pour a tablespoon of chopped plants with a glass of boiling water, boil for 5-10 minutes over low heat, pour into a thermos (or wrap well), leave for at least 2 hours. The advantage of herbal tinctures is that they are both medicine and moisturizer and can be used up to several times a day.

After the nasal cavity has been thoroughly cleansed, you can move on to other treatments.

Drops and ointments

The juice of medicinal plants has long been used as drops in the nose. For this, juice from fresh milkweed herb, plantain leaves, tincture of St. John's wort, propolis or hemlock, fresh anise seeds are best suited. The sap is squeezed out, having previously washed, dried and thoroughly chopped the plants. This should be done without using metal objects. Store in a tightly sealed glass container, in a refrigerator and no more than 3 days.

Here are some effective treatments for polyps:

  • Burying. For tinctures 1 tbsp. pour a spoonful of a dry plant or 15 mg of propolis with half a glass of alcohol, put in a dark, dry, cool place and leave for 14 days. Shake the container occasionally. After the expiration date, strain through several layers of gauze. Before digging in your nose, dilute a small amount of the tincture in half with water. Enough for 5-6 drops in each nostril 1-2 times a day.
  • Turundy. The same tinctures are used for the introduction of turundochek. This allows you to extend the period of exposure to the drug on the nasal mucosa and several times increases the effectiveness of treatment. Soak gauze turundas with infusion, squeeze, insert deep into the nasal passage and leave for 20-30 minutes. Important! Do not forget to pre-dilute the tincture with water, otherwise you can get a severe burn of the mucous membrane from turunda.
  • Compress. A good effect is given by an onion or garlic compress, which is applied to the bridge of the nose so that it covers the sinuses. Peel white onions or garlic (garlic is better, but it bakes stronger!) Peel, chop thoroughly or finely grate, add the same amount of thick honey. Apply the mixture to gauze folded in several layers, attach to the nose, cover with cellophane on top, insulate with cotton wool and glue with a plaster. Keep up to 15 minutes, if it bakes strongly - remove earlier. Then lubricate the skin with a soothing cream. Do not more than 3-4 times a week.
  • Ointments. The easiest treatment option is to lubricate the nasal passages with natural high-quality honey. This should be done at night, but you can still repeat it 1-2 times during the day. Before lubricating, be sure to rinse your nose first. The combination of honey with propolis tincture gives a stronger effect.Propolis ointment can be made by crushing a small piece and mixing it with quality ghee or badger fat.

Remember that such procedures must be done regularly for at least a month. If you interrupt the course of treatment for several days, you will have to start all over again, as its effectiveness drops sharply.

So, before making a choice between traditional drugs or folk remedies, evaluate your strength - whether you have the patience to finish what you started.

Celandine against polyps

The most effective folk remedy has long been considered the treatment of polyps in the nose with celandine. This herb is used for any skin rashes, diseases and neoplasms. Its property to cleanse the skin of any ulcers and sores is what gave the herb its name. But before you start applying it, you need to know a few important facts.

Celandine is a poisonous herb, so it is intended for external use only. Celandine juice is a rather aggressive substance, so it is used to burn out warts. During pregnancy, the use of this remedy is categorically contraindicated.

Celandine for nasal polyps can be used as follows:

  • drip or lubricate the nose with freshly squeezed juice from the plant;
  • introduce turundas with alcohol tincture of celandine;
  • rinsing the nasal cavity with a decoction of celandine.

If you need an intensive course of treatment, then the plant can be applied up to 10 times a day. This gives a fairly quick result - polyps are reduced, and small ones completely disappear within a month. Some treatment of nasal polyps with celandine literally saved them from surgery.

But this is not always so lucky. More often, treatment of nasal polyps with folk remedies does not give the desired result. But their combination with traditional methods of treatment can significantly increase its effectiveness. Therefore, you should not refuse to cooperate with your doctor. On the contrary, it is necessary to look together for the best treatment options and keep the situation under control in order to prevent the active growth of polyps.

Prevention of polyps

The best prevention of the formation of nasal polyps is a healthy lifestyle and strong immunity. Systematic smoking significantly increases the risk of this problem, as it irritates the nasal mucous membranes and leads to degeneration of the villi that line it. This opens the door for an airborne infection, and weak immunity is not able to actively fight it.

It is advisable to periodically inspect the home for the presence of irritants and possible allergens. Do not get too carried away with household chemicals, especially those containing chlorine and other toxic substances.

Wet cleaning should be done regularly, as house dust is a potential allergen. In the cold season, when heating devices are working, it is necessary to control the humidity of the air.

But the main thing is to treat respiratory diseases on time and to the end, since the main reason for the development of polyposis is chronic rhinitis or diseases of the sinuses. Therefore, if a runny nose does not go away within 2-3 weeks, it is necessary to go for a consultation with a doctor and take measures to eliminate it.
