Cough

Why does a child cough after exercise?

The child's activity indicates that he is healthy. But if, during outdoor games or other physical activities, he starts to cough, this is alarming. In such cases, the parents immediately try to "calm down" the baby, offer him another occupation. How correct is this, and what may a child's cough during physical exertion indicate?

Load-to-capacity ratio

Physical activity is always associated with a certain amount of movement and heart rate. Of course, few people count them in everyday life. The main thing is to understand that physical activity leads to an increase in heart rate and respiration, and therefore to a load on the respiratory tract. If there are irritants in the form of infection, air mixed with smoke or dust, a cough occurs, since the body reflexively tries to get rid of them.

In addition, with any physical activity, a little jogging and even during infectious laughter, the body needs more oxygen, and due to its lack, the mucous membrane becomes dry, and sore throat occurs.

It is also believed that the appearance of a cough during exercise may indicate the development of one of the following diseases:

  • bronchitis, and in this case, during an attack, sputum is released, the bronchospasm itself is due to the fact that the disease has affected the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract, and with intensive air movement, additional irritation occurs;
  • pneumonia, and with this disease, during coughing, pain in the side is felt and shortness of breath appears;
  • heart failure;
  • cardiopulmonary insufficiency;
  • allergies;
  • bronchial asthma, which is manifested by such signs as shortness of breath and choking.

This applies to coughing fits in both the child and the adult. But, as practice shows, with physical exertion, a cough most often appears due to bronchial asthma. Moreover, it can continue even during a quiet stay on the street.

If the cough persists after exercise, then this may also indicate the following problems:

  • ARVI;
  • viral bronchitis;
  • pneumonia;
  • pleurisy.

In addition, an attack can begin in an adult who smokes too much, since in this case the airways are almost constantly irritated, and physical activity enhances this effect. Therefore, for example, doctors recommend athletes to quit smoking.

A cough after physical activity also appears with tuberculosis. Initially, dry coughing occurs, which then intensifies, while a large amount of sputum is released, respiratory failure appears.

The true nature of an attack during exercise or after it can only be clarified after examination, and it often turns out that the body is simply not prepared for physical exertion.

Which method is suitable for eliminating cough

Let's not forget that with the help of bronchospasms, the respiratory system tries to reject what prevents it from working normally. With the allergic nature of cough, with bronchitis, bronchial asthma, acute respiratory infections and acute respiratory viral infections, the body is able to get rid of irritants, and it just needs help. But you should not take antibiotics or strong antitussive drugs on your own, it is better to consult a doctor. And in order to stop coughing immediately, it is sometimes enough to drink a little clean water.

A consultation with a doctor is necessary to get answers to all possible "why" and "what to do if". However, most often it turns out that coughing during exercise in an adult or a child is a residual after the disease. It indicates that the mucous membrane has not recovered.

It may also be found that the airway problems are caused by a lack of magnesium in the body, which is necessary for effective muscle function. You may have to take medications that contain this trace element or introduce foods containing magnesium into your diet to prevent bronchospasm.

If a cough occurs due to bronchial asthma, your doctor may prescribe medications that dilate the bronchi. You should not choose such drugs on your own. But even if the remedy is prescribed by a doctor, you do not need to be excessively active: you should take the medicine no more than 6 times a day.

To help the body quickly get rid of the symptoms and residual effects of bronchitis, pneumonia, acute respiratory viral infections or other respiratory diseases, Ambrobene syrup can be prescribed. It is recognized as one of the most effective medicines. Ambrobene is suitable for both adults and kids.

If the cough is allergic, the doctor will advise another syrup - "Atma", containing only homeopathic components. It is also suitable for eliminating the symptoms of bronchitis, an infectious disease of the respiratory tract. In addition, this syrup helps to strengthen the immune system.

As an adjuvant, you can take a mixture of lemon, glycerin and honey. It is necessary to boil the lemon over low heat for 10 minutes, squeeze the juice into a glass, add 2 tablespoons of glycerin and honey melted in a water bath. There should be enough honey so that the glass is completely filled. Take the medicine 1 tablespoon 6 times a day.

Prophylaxis

It is quite possible to reduce the risk of coughing in a child. If the baby coughs during outdoor games in the room, you should take care of sufficient humidification of the air in the room. This is done using a humidifier or wet cleaning. It is also necessary to ensure that the child does not sweat too much during the game, as this is already considered a sign of increased stress.

It is also important not to overload the body dramatically. An older child or an adult who decides to seriously engage in sports should first devote no more than 20 minutes to training. Then the loads are gradually increased, and if, for example, running is chosen, then only after 2 months you can switch to half-hour training.

It is recommended to control the loads. If alarming changes occur in connection with them and the improvement does not occur for a long time, it is better to inform the doctor about this.
