Homemade sweet cough drops

Burnt sugar effect on cough

Cough is a protective reflex of our body, which helps to remove foreign bodies, microorganisms and their waste products from the respiratory tract. Bronchospasm is dry and wet. The treatment of dry cough, which is a consequence of the inflammatory process in the respiratory organs, consists in its transformation into a wet form. The phlegm helps to clear the bronchi and speeds up recovery.

A dry, annoying cough irritates the throat mucosa, therefore, the patient is recommended drugs that have a softening, moisturizing and enveloping effect. Burnt sugar is a remedy that has exactly the properties that are needed in the treatment of dry cough. Sugar candies have a mild effect, relieve irritation from the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory organs. Burnt sugar also helps a little to thin phlegm. Sugar lozenges are indicated for use in acute and chronic pharyngitis and other acute respiratory viral infections, which are accompanied by difficult sputum discharge.

Sweet cough drops are one of the most popular medicines among parents. However, be careful, because in childhood, all inflammatory processes can spread to neighboring organs, and a mild form of a cold quickly turns into an acute infectious disease. You should not get too carried away with tasty medicine, as it is difficult for babies to cough up phlegm correctly. Excessive use of thinning antitussives increases the volume of phlegm and can lead to respiratory failure.

It is important to remember that a dry cough is a symptom not only of a mild cold, but also of complex illnesses such as pneumonia and tuberculosis. Do not experiment with your health and treat yourself with delicious homemade sweets only after the doctor has determined an accurate diagnosis.

Sugar-based candy recipes

  • 1 way. Heat 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar over low heat. After a few minutes, the sugar will darken and begin to melt. Do not overdo the sugar, it can burn. Pour the mixture into a mold greased with vegetable oil, stick in a toothpick, a skewer (do not forget to cut off the sharp tip first) or a match that has been cleared of sulfur. The frozen lollipop is ready to eat.
  • Method 2. The recipe is similar to method 1, but you need to pour the heated sugar into milk at room temperature. The frozen sugar will have a pleasant caramel flavor. Pouring the hot sweet mass into cold milk will create porous candies. Be careful when sucking to avoid injury. This medicine is recommended for schoolchildren.
  • Method 3. Mix the heated sugar with a little butter, but do not bring the mixture to a boil, otherwise the sugar and butter may separate.
  • Method 4 (colored candies). You will need 200 g of sugar, 3 tablespoons of natural juice without pulp, and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Heat all ingredients in a refractory dish, stirring constantly. When the mass becomes golden and stringy, remove it from the heat. The heating time depends on the number of ingredients.

If you do not have special molds for candies, cook the mixture to a thicker consistency and spread it in droplets on kitchen parchment. You will end up with cute drop-shaped sweets.

Sugar-Added Lollipop Recipes

Making sugar candies at home is very convenient, since classic recipes can be supplemented and varied according to your taste preferences. It is worth using the ingredients that are at your fingertips. It is very useful to add edible essential extracts to lozenges.

  1. Peppermint candies. 1 tablespoon of dry mint and chamomile, 1 coffee spoon of ginger and cinnamon (you can use a stick), pour an incomplete glass of hot water and boil for 10-15 minutes. Remove the herbal tea, leave for half an hour. Strain the warm broth. Add 180 g sugar, bring to a boil and cook. To control the temperature regime, use a kitchen thermometer; the temperature of the mixture should not be higher than 150 degrees. When the mass becomes thick and stringy, remove it from the heat and cool, stirring constantly. Add a few drops of essential concentrate. Use a small spoon to spread the mixture in a silicone mold or on parchment paper. Sprinkle the finished candies with starch, this will prevent them from sticking together. Place them in a glass container or bag and store in a cool place.
  2. Lemon candies. Prepare burnt sugar: Boil 150 g of sugar for about 20 minutes until golden brown and viscous. Add 10 g of butter, mix thoroughly and let cool. Add sage, eucalyptus and lemon oils. Spoon the mixture gently over the silicone molds and leave until solidified. Storage conditions are similar to those for mint candies.
  3. Sweets with coconut. Boil 100 g sugar until golden brown. Using a blender, whisk 100 g of warm coconut oil, add burnt sugar and stir. Add 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 8 drops of essential oil. Spoon the candies into silicone molds and refrigerate for an hour. Store candy in glass containers in the refrigerator.
  4. Gingerbread lollipops. Pour half a cup of chopped ginger and half a cup of dry lemongrass with water (the water should cover the ingredients) and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let sit for 10 minutes. Strain the broth, add 1 glass of sugar and cook for 20 minutes over low heat. Do not overheat, at temperatures above 150 degrees, the medicine will lose its healing properties. Remove the mixture from heat and place in silicone molds.
  5. Sweets with essential oil. Boil 400 g of sugar, 1 tablespoon of butter and 100 g of water and simmer for about 20 minutes over low heat. Then remove the mixture from heat and cool. You can use eucalyptus, rosemary, clove, or cinnamon oil to make these candies. Add 7-8 drops of essential extract. Grease a parchment or silicone mold with oil and add sugar. Consume the candy after it has completely hardened.
