Runny nose

Is it okay to bury a child's nose with aloe juice?

Such a common disease as a runny nose is observed in every person, regardless of age. Nasal congestion and discharge can occur in both babies and older adults. These unpleasant symptoms of the disease make it difficult to breathe, sleep and work normally. Aloe from the common cold for children is widely used in folk medicine as part of various medicines.

Recipes based on agave juice have been tested for years, so they can be safely used in pediatrics and pediatric otolaryngology. It is necessary to start treating rhinitis as soon as the first symptoms of the disease appear in the child. Few medicines are allowed for the child, so folk methods are often used.

Note that any medications should be applied to the nasal mucosa after cleansing it.

To clean the mucous membrane, you can use solutions based on sea salt, for example, Aqualor, Humer, Aqua Maris, or prepare a solution yourself. To do this, dissolve food salt (2 g) in warm water with a volume of 260 ml. If sneezing, itching, burning sensation occurs in the nose, stop the procedure and rinse the nasal mucosa with boiled water. Next time you need to prepare a solution with a lower salt concentration.

If agreed with the doctor, a drop of iodine can be added to the saline solution (for older children).

The benefits of aloe

Aloe for a cold in children is used both for therapeutic purposes and for the prevention of complications. The plant is prescribed for sinusitis and adenoiditis. Aloe juice for a cold is used when a yellow-green tinge of nasal discharge appears, which indicates bacterial inflammation, as well as the presence of purulent masses. Aloe is a medicine that has been proven over the years for the common cold, which is used for colds, complicated by rhinitis. Due to its unique composition, the medicine provides:

  1. antimicrobial action. The effect is both in the destruction of pathogenic microorganisms, and in the prevention of their further reproduction. The use of juice is especially useful for bacterial rhinitis and sinusitis. The bactericidal effect is due to the large amount of phytoncides that are part of the plant;
  2. anti-edematous action, which can reduce nasal congestion;
  3. anti-inflammatory effect;
  4. irritating - intensifies sneezing, thereby improving the cleansing of the mucous membrane;
  5. immunostimulating effect (provides the body with vitamins, microelements, amino acids);
  6. detoxification effect.

Due to its natural origin, as well as the special chemical composition, aloe from the common cold can be given to a child starting from the first years of life. To get a powerful healing effect, you must adhere to certain rules for the preparation of medicines.

It is recommended to leave the cut leaves in the refrigerator for 12 hours before using the aloe. The sheet must be wrapped in a dark cloth. This makes it possible to enhance the medicinal effect of the plant by producing biologically active substances.

There are many opinions about the concentration of aloe juice used for children. Some people recommend not diluting the medicine, so as not to reduce the healing power of the plant. Proponents of more gentle therapy prefer to dilute the juice with water two or more times. This prevents burns of the nasal mucosa.

The use of aloe juice for allergic and vasomotor rhinitis is ineffective.

Note that the juice can cause an allergic reaction, therefore it is recommended to carry out an allergy test before using it. To do this, apply the suspected allergen to the child on the back of the wrist and evaluate the test results after an hour. If redness, itching, rashes or tissue swelling appear, the medication should be discarded.

Carefully begin treatment of aloe vera should be children under five years of age. In addition, you need to remember about the possibility of accumulation of the allergen in the body. If the allergy test was doubtfully negative, this means that the allergy may develop a few days after the initiation of agave therapy. If a child develops sneezing during treatment, rhinorrhea and nasal congestion increase, it is recommended to refuse aloe.

Healing recipes

Can aloe vera medicine drip into a child's nose? Agave is not contraindicated for children, however, the concentration of juice in medicines should be taken into account. Improper use of aloe can lead to increased inflammation and rhinorrhea.

We list the most effective recipes based on aloe that are recommended for children with a cold. First recipe:

  • most often, parents use plant juice without additives, since it does not require much effort to prepare it, and it is quite effective. Until 10 years old, it is allowed to drip juice only in a diluted form (1: 3). Boiled water is used for dilution. At an older age, the doctor may allow undiluted aloe juice to be instilled. To get the medicine, you need to cut off the leaf of the plant, peel the skin, after which we get a slimy pulp. Wrap it with gauze and squeeze out the juice. The dosages of the drug are as follows: until the age of three, two drops are enough in each nasal passage, up to seven years it is recommended to drip four drops, at an older age - five drops;
  • another recipe involves using the plant with honey. From the point of view of traditional medicine, the simultaneous use of honey with aloe can aggravate the course of the disease. The use of such a medicine can accelerate the multiplication of microbes, since honey is a good breeding ground for pathogenic microorganisms. As a result, there is a progression of pathology and a deterioration in the condition of children. Alternative medicine, on the contrary, notes the mild effect of the components of the drug on the nasal mucosa, which contributes to a quick recovery. To prepare a remedy, you need molten honey, as well as aloe juice. The ingredients are mixed in equal amounts. For non-infectious rhinitis, it is recommended to drip 2 drops of the nose. The recipe is suitable for children who are not allergic to bee products;
  • to prepare oil nose drops, it is necessary to prepare the olive oil as well as the plant. First, heat the oil in a water bath until it boils, cool it and mix it with juice (3: 1). We use the mixture only when warm. In atrophic rhinitis, oil drops help to easily remove dry crusts from the nasal cavities. To do this, it is enough to drip your nose, wait 7 minutes, and then start cleansing.

Oil drops are not allowed until the age of three.

It is necessary to bury aloe in the nose correctly, otherwise the therapeutic effect will be insufficient. The child needs to tilt his head back a little to the right side, after which the drug should be instilled into the left nasal passage. The same must be repeated with the second nostril.

Aloe juice in a child's nose can be added to celandine, onions or lemon. Similar recipes are used to treat children over the age of ten:

  1. Pour 10 g of celandine with boiling water (280 ml), insist for an hour and combine with aloe juice (1: 1);
  2. add a drop of onion juice to the diluted juice (1: 3 with water);
  3. aloe can be diluted with carrot juice and boiled water (1: 1: 2);
  4. mix the juices of garlic and aloe (1: 5), dilute three times with water. We bury our nose one drop at a time;
  5. the combination of garlic, agave, honey is considered a powerful combination, thanks to which it provides an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory effect.To prepare the mixture, you need to peel the garlic clove, chop it, pour 180 ml of boiling water and leave for four hours. Then add honey, aloe in equal amounts. After mixing thoroughly, drip drop by drop twice a day.

You can not only drip aloe into the nose, but use the plant to lubricate or rinse the nasal mucosa. Here are some recipes:

  1. in equal amounts mix aloe, melted honey, rosehip oil, add eucalyptus oil (2 drops). Having received a homogeneous mixture, you should soak cotton turundas in it, insert into the nasal passages for 7 minutes. In addition, the agent is used to treat mucous membranes or instill two drops in the nasal passages;
  2. in combination with herbs, the medicine is not so aggressive, but no less powerful in terms of medicinal properties. To prepare a solution for washing the nose, we first make an infusion of chamomile with eucalyptus. Pour 15 g of grass each with boiling water (260 ml), insist for an hour, filter and add aloe juice (3-7 drops).

Side effects

Regardless of the chosen recipe based on the agave, you should be aware of the risk of developing adverse reactions. In this regard, it is necessary to monitor the child's condition, pay attention to his activity, sleep and the degree of nasal congestion.

Harm to health can be caused by uncontrolled use of the plant without observing the dosage and duration of the therapeutic course. In case of improper use of aloe, the risk of developing complications associated with direct contact of the drug with the nasal mucosa or the spread of infection increases. Among the complications, it is worth highlighting:

  • an allergic reaction. It is manifested by increased swelling of the mucous membrane, worsening of nasal breathing. Sneezing, severe rhinorrhea is also observed, shortness of breath may appear;
  • sinusitis (sinusitis, frontal sinusitis) can be a consequence of the spread of inflammation, as well as the lack of outflow of mucus from the paranasal sinuses. Clinically, the disease is manifested by a nasal voice, hyperthermia, headache, lack of nasal breathing, painful sensations in the area of the bridge of the nose, paranasal cavities;
  • otitis media - develops as a result of the appearance of edema of the mucous membrane of the auditory tube, impaired ventilation in the ear sections and activation of opportunistic flora. Clinically, the disease is accompanied by ear pain, tinnitus, hearing loss;
  • pharyngitis, tonsillitis - arise as a result of the penetration of infection into the mucous membrane of the posterior pharyngeal wall. In addition, the appearance of pharyngitis can be caused by breathing through the mouth, when cold, untreated air enters the respiratory tract directly, bypassing the nasal cavities.

At the stage of development of complications, aloe juice from the common cold for children is used only as an auxiliary method, because the main therapy involves the appointment of antibacterial, mucolytic and vasoconstrictor drugs.
