Snot

Treatment of green snot in an adult

When thick green snot begins to stand out from an adult's nose, this eloquently indicates that a bacterial infection has entered the body. Doctors note that this nature of the discharge indicates the neglect of the disease. Therefore, treatment should be started immediately. If the discharge has an unpleasant odor, this is a sign that the body is not able to overcome the disease on its own and, most likely, it has become more complicated. An urgent need to start treatment for green snot.

How to properly treat green snot

Prolonged runny nose almost always leads to further spread of the infection through the nasopharynx. In this case, you can get either otitis media or sinusitis. Both diseases, as a rule, are accompanied by unpleasant-smelling green snot. Of course, in the event of such serious problems, the help of an experienced specialist is needed. But if you are in excellent control of the situation, it is quite possible to do the treatment yourself.

In order to get rid of such a nuisance as green thick snot, a universal method is usually used, which consists in rinsing the nose with special agents that have cleansing and moisturizing properties. With the help of washing, it is possible to achieve liquefaction of the accumulated secretion and facilitate its elimination.

After rinsing, it is advisable to use other topical preparations - then they will show a higher effect. At the same time, the antiseptic solution is good for fighting infection.

For rinsing the nose in adults, the following agents are traditionally used:

  • sprays and drops, which are based on sea water (for example, "Aqua Maris", "Aqualor"), as well as ordinary saline solution;
  • "Dolphin" - a drug represented by a complex of microelements and salts, which are diluted in a liquid, with rosehip and licorice extracts;
  • furacilin solution - made independently (one tablet of the drug must be diluted in a glass of drinking water) or ready-made from a pharmacy;
  • iodine tincture on alcohol (an aqueous solution is made from it, for the preparation of which you need to drop 1-2 drops of this tincture into a glass of drinking water);
  • "Dioxidin" is a local antimicrobial agent that has shown high efficiency.

In addition to rinsing the nose, for diseases that accompany thick discharge of green or yellow-green colors, it is imperative to use drops or special nasal sprays. They are necessary to cure such a cold.

  • Medicines for vasoconstriction (for example, "Tizin", "Naphthyzin", "Galazolin", "Sanorin" and many others) help to ease breathing through the nose, relieve puffiness, however, they dry out the mucous membrane too much and have a significant number of side effects. In addition, you get used to them very quickly, so they cannot be used for a long time.
  • "Protargol" is a medicine with a high silver content, which is characterized by antimicrobial and astringent action. It was once actively used to cure bacterial rhinitis. And today doctors prescribe it with extreme caution, since silver salts tend to accumulate in the body, and this is very harmful.
  • "Albucid" (the second name is "Sulfacetamide") is a medicine that is popularly called simply eye drops. It is commonly prescribed as a broad-acting antibiotic to treat green snot in bacterial rhinitis.
  • Spray or nasal drops containing an antibiotic (for example, "Bioparox", "Isofra") effectively help to eliminate thick green snot in adults.
  • Local action (bacterial) vaccine "IRS-19" is presented with a nasal spray. It stimulates the production of immunoglobulins needed to fight infection.
  • Combination drugs that simultaneously have a vasoconstrictor, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect (for example, "Polydexa").
  • Means based on healing essential oils (for example, "Pinosol" in the form of an ointment, spray or drops, "Cameton spray") are excellent antiseptics that effectively facilitate breathing through the nose. They can also be used successfully to eliminate the thick green snot that occurs with bacterial rhinitis in adults.

In order for the treatment of green snot to be more effective, as already mentioned, you must first rinse your nose or use some vasoconstrictor, and then start using a spray or drops with antibiotics.

This procedure is necessary so that the discharge and edematous mucous membrane do not interfere with the penetration of drugs into the body.

What to do for a pregnant woman

If a woman in a position has green thick snot, this is a clear sign of the development of an infection in the body, which poses a rather serious threat to the fetus. During the carrying of a baby, regardless of the period, the treatment of diseases in which a green secret is released from the nose should be urgent. Only the attending physician can prescribe the course of treatment, since most drugs have direct contraindications for expectant mothers.

Let's give an example. The use of drugs to narrow blood vessels has a detrimental effect on placental blood flow and uterine blood supply. For a pregnant woman, such drugs are allowed only in an emergency - when serious disturbances in breathing through the nose can lead to hypoxia, which results in severe complications in a pregnant baby.

Local antibiotics do not enter the general bloodstream - they are just allowed for expectant mothers. But their reception must still be coordinated with the attending physician.

To combat the common cold, pregnant women can safely use saline solutions and Miramistin. But "Dioxidin" and iodine solution are prohibited.

It is necessary to use herbal preparations and products with essential oils for medicinal purposes with extreme caution, since pregnant women have a high risk of allergies.

Traditional medicine recipes

The most popular, due to their effectiveness, won the following methods of eliminating green snot, gleaned from the "grandmother's" recipes:

  • Avoid hypothermia.
  • Set aside at least a little time every day to take a walk down the street.
  • You should sleep at least 8 hours a day.
  • Get hardened - but do it wisely.
  • Exercise yourself physically on a regular basis.
