Throat treatment

Soda, salt and iodine from the throat

Gargling is one unconventional way to relieve symptoms of a sore throat. For this, various solutions are used using infusion of herbs, soda, salt, iodine, etc. These components are not only generally available, but also show noticeable effectiveness in the treatment of diseases of the nasopharynx. To obtain the maximum positive result in the treatment of various throat diseases, the above substances are most often used in combination.

Ways to relieve pain with baking soda

It is known that the use of baking soda for gargling for sore throat is a fairly effective remedy that has a pronounced disinfectant effect. Soda and salt solutions have a positive effect due to the creation of an environment on the surface of the pharynx, which inhibits the growth and reproduction of pathogenic viruses and bacteria. Using a soda solution:

  • helps to relieve puffiness;
  • promotes the healing of microcracks;
  • reduces pain;
  • serves to remove mucus and pus;
  • has an antimycotic effect, creating unfavorable conditions for the development of dangerous microflora.

Soda solution allows you to speed up recovery in case of various diseases of the nasopharynx. It doesn't take long to prepare the soda solution. All that is needed is to dissolve 5 g of baking soda in 200 ml of water, the temperature of which should be comparable to the normal temperature of the human body. Rinsing should be done regularly: in the first hours of the disease - every hour, then four to five times a day. If the treatment is carried out correctly, then after two days the pain in the pharynx will disappear. However, remember that everything is fine in moderation, so you should not abuse the procedure, since soda can significantly dry out the pharyngeal mucosa. If a child needs treatment, the amount of baking soda used must be halved.

Important! To prepare rinsing solutions, it is necessary to take water with a temperature of about 30 degrees.

You can increase the effectiveness of this recipe by using an infusion of medicinal herbs, for example, sage or string, instead of ordinary water.

Prevention of diseases of the nasopharynx and treatment with soda are carried out not only by rinsing, but also by inhalation. In this case, 15 mg of soda must be dissolved in a liter of hot water and inhaled soda steam, bending over the container.

Important! An overdose of soda can have a negative effect on the body due to a significant violation of the acid-base balance.

Throat Salt

Salt is often used in conjunction with other substances, such as baking soda, to enhance the antiseptic effect. However, just gargling with salt will have a positive effect on relieving symptoms of pain in the nasopharynx. In this case, you can use both ordinary kitchen salt and its iodized analogue. Saline rinsing is a useful procedure that:

  • provokes the healing of small wounds;
  • reduces swelling;
  • has a disinfecting effect;
  • clears the mucous membrane of purulent plaque;
  • greatly facilitates the patient's condition.

The mixture of components used for rinsing should be freshly prepared, and its temperature should be about 30 degrees. For 200 ml of liquid, 5 mg of salt is used. A positive effect will be achieved only with regular rinsing, which should be carried out at least every hour from the first minutes of the onset of symptoms. Also, saline can be used to instill and rinse the nose.

Important! Do not swallow the soda solution, as sodium bicarbonate can have a negative effect on the gastrointestinal tract.

Iodine treatments

To relieve painful symptoms and treat throat ailments with iodine rinses, iodine is most often used in combination with substances such as soda and salt. Iodine is a powerful disinfectant, so it is advisable to use it in the first hours after the onset of throat disease.

The most common recipe used for gargles includes baking soda, salt, and iodine. In a glass of warm water, dissolve 5 mg of salt and soda and a few drops of iodine.

The solution, which contains iodine and salt, is used for the throat at least three times a day for at least five days. If the treatment is carried out to a child, then the amount of iodine must be reduced to a minimum, using no more than a drop.

Also, for various diseases of the nasopharynx, iodine inhalations are effective: 5 drops of iodine are added to a small amount of hot water and the vapor is inhaled for ten minutes.

A solution of iodine with glycerin is a highly effective remedy in the treatment of throat ailments. In this case, it is necessary to lubricate the tonsils with a small amount of the drug three times a day.

Important! Before using iodine, you must make sure that there is no allergy or hypersensitivity to this drug.

Gargles for pregnant women and children

Most doctors consider gargling to be the most harmless, but at the same time quite effective way to treat throat diseases. Therefore, therapy with soda and salt solutions is recommended for both pregnant women and children.

Important! Pregnant women should not use iodine in rinsing solutions!

As for children, it is necessary to start teaching the child how to properly gargle as soon as possible. However, rinsing with soda and saline solutions should be started no earlier than two years old to avoid swallowing. If we are talking about a child under the age of five years, rinsing with the addition of iodine is carried out no more than one or two times a day.

Medications

Despite the high efficiency of solutions of soda, salt and iodine in the treatment of throat diseases, preparations based on herbal ingredients are often used in the treatment of diseases of the nasopharynx. So, infusions of chamomile, sage, oak bark, calendula, etc. have a pronounced antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect. You can also use Proposol to relieve pain and eliminate pathogenic microorganisms. The drug contains propolis, which has a number of features:

  • has an immunostimulating effect;
  • promotes healing of the mucous membrane;
  • increases the elasticity of blood vessels;
  • has an anesthetic effect.

The preparation contains glycerin, which contributes to additional hydration of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, and ethanol, which has an antiseptic effect. Due to its natural composition, Proposol has practically no contraindications and can be used to treat both children over twelve years of age and pregnant women. It is advisable to use it from the first days of the disease and continue using it until the painful symptoms disappear. It has been proven that long-term use of the drug does not have an addictive effect.... But it is important to make sure that there are no allergic reactions to the main components.

It is known that the number of medicinal plants that can have a positive effect on the condition of the nasopharynx in acute pain and severe inflammation is enormous. A whole range of such natural remedies is contained in the preparation "Septisol". In addition to medicinal herbs, the composition of the product also includes substances such as mummy, gum, ionic copper complexes, propolis and honey. "Septisol" has a pronounced antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral, analgesic and decongestant effect.This drug is available in various forms, which allows you to both rinse the throat and irrigate it with an aerosol. "Septisol" as a throat spray is convenient to use in situations where rinsing is impossible.

"Septisol" and "Proposol" are effective and at the same time natural preparations, the action of which is based on the positive influence of natural components.

Basic rules for rinsing

To achieve the maximum effect when using various substances and preparations used for gargling, you must follow some simple recommendations:

  1. The temperature of the rinse solution should be about 30 degrees.
  2. You can use the solution only after all the components are dissolved in water, that is, there should be no sediment.
  3. The rinse solution must be freshly prepared. After all, the medicinal properties of the components that make up the solution are quickly lost, so you should not store the liquid left over from the previous rinse.
  4. It is important to observe the proportions during the preparation of medicinal mixtures.
  5. You need to take a small amount of liquid into your mouth.
  6. For maximum effect when gargling, you should pronounce the sound "yyy" with your mouth open.
  7. For twenty to thirty minutes after rinsing, do not eat or drink water. After all, this way you can wash off the medicinal solution, which will significantly reduce the time of its exposure.
  8. For maximum effectiveness, rinse after meals at least three times a day.
  9. The duration of one rinse is at least 30 seconds.
  10. If you use drugs such as Septisol or Proposol to treat your throat, you must carefully follow the recommendations for these drugs.

By adhering to the above simple rules, you can get the most out of the gargle procedure for sore throats.
