Throat treatment

Can i gargle with kerosene?

Since ancient times, kerosene has been used to treat a variety of throat ailments. Side effects have been observed in the case of private use in large quantities. This remedy is effective in the initial stages of tonsillitis, pharyngitis and other inflammatory processes with localization in the oropharynx.

Gargling with kerosene is allowed only after strict adherence to the rules for preparing the medicine, taking into account all contraindications.

First, we will analyze the main properties of kerosene in order to understand how the remedy helps with a sore throat. The substance is characterized by an oily consistency, transparent color. It is obtained by refining oil, it is used not only for technical purposes, but also for the treatment of head lice, tonsillitis, pharyngitis. For prophylactic purposes, the remedy is not used, however, some people resort to its help even with a sore throat.

The use of kerosene is due to many positive properties:

  • antiseptic;
  • analgesic;
  • decongestant;
  • anti-inflammatory, which is carried out due to vasodilation (vasodilation), since a greater amount of blood with biologically active substances that suppress the inflammatory reaction enters the pathological focus;
  • drying;
  • the possibility of deep penetration into the tonsils.

Such healing properties are used for angina, pharyngitis, stomatitis, tuberculosis, migraines, bruises, sprains of tendons, ligaments.

When gargling is indicated

The appearance of pain in the throat in most cases indicates the development of an inflammatory process. Pharyngitis is often the cause of pain, when the inflammation is localized on the posterior pharyngeal wall. In the case of prolonged persistence of pain, perspiration, it is worth suspecting the chronization of the process (chronic pharyngitis).

Laryngitis is often diagnosed in children, in which, in addition to a sore throat, dry cough worries. The reasons for the appearance of pain syndrome include:

  • viral infection;
  • bacterial pathogens;
  • allergic reactions;
  • the action of irritating factors (smoke, strong odors, dry air).

In the case of a viral origin of the disease, a person is worried about a dry cough, body aches, hyperthermia, rhinitis, a hoarse voice. In this case, pharyngitis, tonsillitis are a complication of influenza, chickenpox, enterovirus infection.

If the cause of the disease is a bacterial pathogen, for example, streptococcus, staphylococcus, angina often develops. It can be an independent pathology, a complication of another disease, for example, infectious mononucleosis, scarlet fever.

Infection of the body with hemolytic streptococcus increases the risk of developing rheumatism.

Serious complications of the disease include.

  • Myocarditis, endocarditis, pericarditis, the formation of valvular heart defects, which is manifested by angina pectoris, shortness of breath, changes in the electrocardiogram, with ultrasound.
  • Renal lesion with the development of glomerulonephritis, pyeloneuritis, when a person is worried about soreness in the lumbar region, swelling, increased blood pressure. In laboratory urine tests, proteinuria, leukocyturia, microhematuria, and the appearance of bacteria are recorded. Ultrasound examination reveals damage to the glomeruli, calyx-pelvic structures of the kidneys.
  • The defeat of the joints in the form of migratory polyarthritis. In this case, there is swelling, hyperemia of the skin over the joint, the appearance of pain, limitation of articular mobility.
  • Septic condition, when the infectious focus washes to have different localization (skin, lungs, kidneys).
  • Among the local complications that develop against the background of the spread of infection, the appearance of a purulent component of inflammation, it is worth highlighting:
  • The defeat of the lymph nodes that are located most close to the inflammatory focus. On palpation, the lymph nodes feel painful, enlarged, dense formations.
  • Swelling of the neck, resulting in difficulty breathing.
  • Bleeding from the blood vessels that feed the tonsils, due to their purulent fusion.
  • Exacerbation of stomatitis.
  • Formation of an abscess, phlegmon.

It should be noted that kerosene is powerless in the fight against a widespread infectious and inflammatory process.

With prolonged use of kerosene, in the event of a sore throat, the risk of not only poisoning with this substance increases, but also the aggravation of a person's condition due to the progression of the underlying disease.

The opinion of official medicine

As for traditional medicine, kerosene is not considered a medicinal agent, therefore it categorically prohibits its use. This is due to the development of severe side effects due to the use of kerosene. In this regard, when asked whether it is possible to use kerosene for medicinal purposes, doctors give a negative answer.

Scientists have established and proven by many studies that kerosene is ineffective against streptococci, staphylococci and other pathogenic microorganisms. The medicine has a detrimental effect only on the yeast-like fungus, but this is not an indication for its use.

Contraindications

Gargling with kerosene is not carried out in case of a serious condition of a person. In the presence of severe intoxication syndrome, febrile hyperthermia, treatment is carried out exclusively in a hospital under the supervision of a physician. For this, traditional medicines are prescribed, the effectiveness of which has been confirmed for many years.

In this case, the use of kerosene can lead to serious complications with the development of multiple organ failure. Burns of the oropharynx, oral cavity, upper respiratory tract, and digestive tract are quite often recorded.

Symptomatically, damage to the mucous membrane by an aggressive substance is manifested by pain syndrome of varying intensity, nausea, vomiting, drooling, coughing, voice changes, impaired swallowing, breathing.

Contraindications also include:

  1. severe liver, kidney disease;
  2. increased bleeding;
  3. allergic reactions;
  4. bronchial asthma and other diseases of the respiratory tract with a risk of bronchospasm;
  5. oncopathology;
  6. anemia.

If during the gargling in the throat there is soreness, burning, dryness, the procedure should be stopped, rinse the throat with water.

In addition, before rinsing, you should check for an allergic reaction of the body to kerosene. To do this, it is necessary to apply the substance to the forearm and, after half an hour, visually assess the condition of the skin. When redness, swelling, rash appears, kerosene treatment is prohibited.

Kerosene preparation

Now you need to figure out what kind of kerosene you can gargle with. Before using it, preparation is necessary, or rather, purification. There are several methods for this.

  1. Kerosene and hot water (1 liter each) are curled into a 3-liter container (jar). The jar closes tightly, mixes well by shaking for several minutes. From time to time it is necessary to open the container, reducing the discharge pressure. After that, the solution is infused, a precipitate appears. Then the solution is carefully drained, leaving a residue in the jar. The procedure is performed in a well-ventilated area to avoid poisoning.
  2. According to another recipe, kerosene and hot water are mixed in a volume of half a liter.After obtaining a clean solution, salt is added to it (half a glass), the mixture is thoroughly mixed, infused for a day. It is necessary to filter the solution with activated carbon, after which a liquid of a dirty shade is obtained. The solution is infused again, the kerosene is drained, the medicine is ready for use.
  3. The kerosene should be filtered, salt should be added, after which the container with the resulting solution should be boiled in a water bath for 1.5 hours. The purified solution is poured into a dark jar, stored for a year in a dark place.

Healing recipes

It is worth noting that kerosene has a detrimental effect not only on pathogenic microorganisms, but also on healthy cells.

Kerosene is used to gargle the throat after preparing it in the following way:

  • A small volume of water is heated in a metal vessel, after which 1 tablespoon of kerosene and 1 teaspoon of soda are added in small portions to avoid the appearance of foam. After the solution has cooled, you can start rinsing. During the procedure, you should close your nose, and spit out the kerosene after rinsing. Repeat rinsing up to 5 times.
  • 1 teaspoon of the solution in a purified form is added to warm water with a volume of a glass, after which the throat is rinsed.
  • 10 drops of pure kerosene are added to water with a volume of 50 ml, after which the solution is stirred and used for rinsing.

Some traditional healers offer recipes for oropharyngeal treatment using oral kerosene. Such methods are considered extremely dangerous due to the high toxicity of the product.

Kerosene for the treatment of children and pregnant women

Given the high risk of developing severe complications after using kerosene, the use of this substance in the treatment of children, pregnant women, lactating women is strictly prohibited.

A child develops symptoms of poisoning much faster than an adult. In addition, intoxication develops while taking a smaller amount of kerosene. This is due to the high sensitivity, imperfect compensatory capabilities, and a low level of organ protection.

As for pregnant women, the use of the refined petroleum product is also prohibited in order to avoid deteriorating the health of the pregnant woman and the fetus. This can lead to mutations, hypoxia, impaired development of the embryo, spontaneous abortion, premature birth.

During lactation, the risk of penetration of toxic products with milk to the child increases, and therefore, doctors are extremely negative about such unconventional methods of treatment.

The benefits and risks of kerosene are disproportionate for treatment in childhood, pregnancy and lactation. The likelihood of developing severe complications is very high.

Once again, we focus on the high toxicity of kerosene for the body, so you should think carefully before starting the treatment of your throat with kerosene. Moreover, in our time there are many medicines, folk recipes based on herbs that have been tested over the years. They have an effective anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-edema effect without harm to the body.
