The benefits of Kalanchoe juice for a cold

Kalanchoe is a plant of the bastard family, which has pronounced pharmacological properties. The juice contains substances with antimicrobial, antiphlogistic and wound healing effects. When instilling liquid into the nose, a regression of inflammatory processes is observed, which is due to the destruction of the pathogenic flora in the foci of inflammation.

Regular use of Kalanchoe for the common cold helps to facilitate nasal breathing.

The active components of the plant stimulate the evacuation of mucus from the nasal passages, which contributes to a speedy recovery.

The healing properties of Kalanchoe are due to the presence in its composition of organic acids, tannins and flavonoids, which have anti-cold effects.

Biochemical composition

According to herbalists, the use of Kalanchoe with a cold helps to eliminate puffiness and inflammatory processes in the ciliated epithelium, which arise due to the development of pathogens. The effectiveness of the product is due to the presence in its composition of a large number of useful substances, which include:

  • vitamin C;
  • flavonoids;
  • antioxidants;
  • organic acids;
  • tannins;
  • micro and macro elements;
  • B vitamins;
  • malic and citric acid;
  • mineral salts;
  • polysaccharides.

Important! For therapeutic purposes, only two types of plants are used: degremona and pinnate Kalanchoe.

They contain the maximum amount of nutrients. The presence of components of antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and regenerating action allows the use of plant juice in the treatment of trophic ulcers, boils, rhinitis, purulent inflammation, etc.

Pharmachologic effect

Unlike most nasal drops, the plant does not contain toxic substances. For this reason, it is recommended to use it to treat the common cold not only in adults, but also in preschool children. The product has minimal contraindications due to the absence of preservatives, dyes, synthetic antibiotics, etc.

The healing properties of Kalanchoe with a cold:

  • antiphlogistic - prevents the development of pathogenic flora in the nasopharyngeal mucosa, which leads to a regression of catarrhal processes;
  • antimicrobial - inhibits the activity of pathogenic bacteria, due to which their number in the foci of inflammation decreases;
  • decongestants - normalizes the outflow of lymph, which leads to a decrease in swelling in the affected tissues;
  • wound healing - accelerates blood circulation, as a result of which blood flow to the inflamed mucosa improves. This contributes to the acceleration of biochemical reactions, due to which the tissue of the ciliated epithelium is restored.

Important! The effectiveness of Kalanchoe has been proven in the treatment of only acute rhinitis. In the presence of a chronic rhinitis, plant juice is used as an additional anti-inflammatory agent.

Operating principle

The widespread use of Kalanchoe for nasal congestion is due to its ability to reduce the viscosity of secretions in the nasal passages. The sap of the plant irritates the nasopharyngeal mucosa, due to which intense sneezing begins. Forced exhalation leads to a rapid evacuation of mucus, as a result of which nasal breathing is facilitated.

It is undesirable to use fresh juice in the treatment of a cold in newborns. Hypersensitivity of the mucous membranes can cause an allergic reaction.

Due to the presence of organic acids, vitamins and microelements in the plant, the epithelialization of the affected tissues is accelerated. This leads to an increase in local immunity and, as a consequence, the resolution of inflammatory processes in the ENT organs. Regular use of the product helps to eliminate the signs of rhinitis within 3-4 days.

Preparation of nasal drops

How to make nasal drops from Kalanchoe? The peculiarities of the preparation of the nasal agent are determined by the age of the patient. Pediatricians do not recommend the use of freshly squeezed juice for the treatment of rhinitis in patients with bleeding disorders. Irritation of the mucous membrane promotes blood flow to the affected tissues, which can lead to nosebleeds.

To prepare an effective drug for the common cold, you can use the following recipes:

  1. fresh juice: grind the leaves of the plant in a blender (meat grinder), then squeeze the juice out of them using clean gauze;
  2. water-based solution: mix freshly squeezed Kalanchoe juice with boiled water in equal proportions;
  3. alcohol tincture: mix 100 ml of juice with 1 tsp. medical alcohol (the tincture can be stored in the refrigerator for at least 6 months);
  4. infusion: chop 8-9 large leaves of the plant and fill them with 1 liter of boiling water; after 4-5 hours, strain the infusion with gauze.

To enhance the anti-inflammatory properties of drops, herbalists recommend mixing Kalanchoe juice with a small amount of liquid honey, calendula decoction and aloe vera extracts.

Important! Do not mix Kalanchoe with milk to treat a cold in infants.

This can lead to the development of a bacterial infection in the nasal mucosa.

Treatment of children

It is undesirable to use freshly squeezed Kalanchoe juice from the common cold for the treatment of newborns and children under 1 year old. A high concentration of active substances in the preparation leads to an allergic reaction. Tissue irritation provokes swelling of the mucous membrane, as a result of which nasal breathing worsens.

How to bury Kalanchoe in the nose? According to the recommendations of pediatricians, it is advisable to take into account the following nuances during the treatment of infants:

  • rhinitis in newborns is treated with a decoction or infusion of Kalanchoe. To do this, 2-3 drops of drugs should be instilled into each of the nasal passages no more than 3 times a day;
  • to reduce swelling, insert cotton turundas soaked in a medicinal solution into the nasal passages; perform the procedure 3-4 times a day for 1 week;
  • to prevent rhinitis, wipe the nasal mucosa with a cotton swab dipped in a decoction of Kalanchoe leaves.

Despite the pronounced medicinal properties of the plant, consult your pediatrician before using it. Frequent use of drops and decoctions can cause burns in the nasal mucosa.

Treatment for adults

If the recommended dosage is observed, Kalanchoe from the common cold can be instilled in its pure form by adults. To minimize the likelihood of an allergic reaction, it is advisable to mix the plant juice with aloe vera extract. Regular use of the product will help to cope with acute rhinitis and relieve the symptoms of bacterial sinusitis.

Kalanchoe juice: instructions for use for the common cold:

  • clear mucus from the nasal passages; rinse your nose with a mild saline solution;
  • heat freshly squeezed juice to 37 degrees;
  • using a pipette, add 2 drops of the drug to each nostril.

To achieve the desired therapeutic effect, nasal drops must be prepared immediately before use. Freshly squeezed juice contains the maximum amount of nutrients that accelerate the regression of inflammatory processes in the nasopharynx.
