Sinusitis

Treatment of sinusitis at home during pregnancy

Treatment of sinusitis at home in pregnant women consists of a set of procedures (rinsing the nose, inhalation, warming up, preparing natural nasal drops, using turunda, etc.), which help relieve symptoms of the disease, alleviate the patient's condition and speed up the healing process. Despite the fact that almost all recipes of traditional medicine are based on the use of natural ingredients, this does not make them absolutely safe, especially during the period of bearing a child. It is possible to apply one or another method of treatment only after it has been approved by the attending physician, since there are various contraindications at different stages of pregnancy, and there is also a risk of developing allergic reactions of the body.

In addition, the permission to use some folk recipes directly depends on the nature and severity of the disease, which can only be determined by a qualified specialist. It is also important to understand that bacterial maxillary sinusitis is dangerous in its consequences (neuritis of the facial nerve, impaired functioning of the organs of hearing and vision, sepsis, meningitis, etc.), therefore, in any case, even during pregnancy, antibiotics prescribed by a doctor should be the basis of therapy. aimed at fighting bacteria-pathogens and preventing infection from spreading throughout the body. Folk recipes cannot cure sinusitis, but can be used as an aid in the fight against pathology.

General recommendations

In the case of treating inflammation of the maxillary sinuses at home, it is imperative to follow the rules for carrying out the procedures, as well as familiarize yourself with their possible consequences. For example, in the treatment of bacterial sinusitis, when purulent exudate accumulates in the maxillary sinuses, as well as at elevated body temperature, it is strictly forbidden to exert a thermal effect on the cavity.

Thus, heating the paranasal sinuses with boiled eggs, crumb of bread, salt or buckwheat wrapped in a cloth, just like compresses with inhalation, is possible only at the initial stages of the development of the disease. In other cases, heat can provoke a breakthrough of pathological secretions into the cranial cavity.

You should also be very careful when preparing medicines based on onions, garlic, cyclamen or radish. Increasing the dosage of these ingredients may cause burns to the nasal mucosa. In addition, during inhalation, there is a risk of burning the respiratory tract, therefore, in no case should you breathe hot vapors over boiling water. The temperature of the liquid should not be higher than 30-40 degrees. And you need to bend over the container no lower than 20-30 cm.

In addition, in traditional medicine there are many recipes for the preparation of nasal drops, which have repeatedly proven their effectiveness. However, in order to achieve a therapeutic effect, you need to be able to bury them correctly, otherwise they will not have a positive effect. You should take a horizontal position on your side, drip the medicine into the nostril, which is lower and stay in this position for several minutes. Then you need to roll over on the other side and repeat the procedure, instilling drops in the other nostril. Finally, since pregnancy is not the time to experiment with traditional medicine recipes, you should be very serious about your choice of medicinal herbs. Some of them seem completely harmless, but they can have a diuretic or tonic effect. Such an effect is not always beneficial for the body of a pregnant woman.

Thus, the choice of methods and recipes for treatment at home must be agreed with the doctor without fail.

Rinsing the nose

Irrigation therapy is one of the most versatile and widespread treatments for rhinitis and sinusitis. Washing is done both on an outpatient basis ("cuckoo") and at home. The main goal of this procedure is to dilute the pathological exudate, prevent its stagnation in the sinuses and accelerate the process of its elimination from there. Regardless of the recipe chosen, there are rules that should be followed during this procedure. Usually, a medicinal solution, the temperature of which should not rise above 40 degrees, is injected into the nasal passages using a syringe without a needle, a syringe or a special teapot (jala-neti). The manipulation itself is carried out about 4 times a day.

Before washing, the patient needs to blow her nose well and make sure that she can breathe relatively freely through her nose. Then you should tilt your head over the sink or bathtub and turn it to the side so that one nostril is higher than the other. Then, the liquid is gradually poured into the upper nasal passage and, if everything is done correctly, then the therapeutic solution, along with the mucopurulent exudate, will flow through the lower nasal passage, without getting into the throat. At the end of the procedure, you need to blow your nose again well.

Many experts note the unsafe use of syringes and syringes during flushing, since when they are used, liquid enters the nasal cavity under pressure. However, not very strong the jet should not harm the adult body. As for the solution itself, sometimes even ordinary boiled or mineral water is used for washing, but to achieve an antiseptic effect, you can use the following components:

  • sea or kitchen salt in a ratio of 1 teaspoon to 1 liter of water. You can also add a few drops of iodine to this saline solution;
  • add a few drops of calendula extract to boiled or mineral water;
  • Pour boiling water over 3 tablespoons of dried cuff herb and leave for 4 hours, then strain;
  • make a decoction of medicinal herbs (you can use a string, chamomile or coltsfoot);
  • ready-made rinsing products (it is imperative to check whether the product is suitable for use during pregnancy).

Nasal drops

Getting sick with maxillary sinusitis, many pregnant patients are faced with a ban on the use of vasoconstrictor drops. In such a situation, a logical question arises "how to treat sinusitis without burying the nose?" The answer lies in the use of self-prepared drops. They have a positive effect on the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity and contribute to the waste of pathological exudate. Among the most effective recipes are the following:

  • Chop the onion thoroughly and take 3 tablespoons, add 50 g of warm boiled water and half a teaspoon of honey. Insist for half an hour, filter and instill 2 drops in each nostril 4 times a day.
  • Add a little honey to fresh beet juice and add 2-3 drops 4-5 times a day.
  • Mix five drops of eucalyptus tincture with a tablespoon of black tea and half a teaspoon of melted honey. Instill the resulting liquid 2 drops into each nostril 3 times a day.
  • Instill 2-3 drops of aloe juice into each nostril up to 4 times a day. You can add a few drops of the tea tree to the aloe juice.
  • 20 minutes after rinsing the nose with saline solution, instill 2 drops of sea buckthorn oil in each nasal passage.
  • with chronic sinusitis or a tendency to rhinitis, you need to thoroughly grind 30 g of bay leaves in advance and pour 1 glass of sunflower oil. Leave the solution in a dark place for 2 weeks, stirring well every day.Then filter the medicine and instill 2 drops in each nostril 3 times a day (course no longer than one week).

Turundy

Turundas help relieve swelling and destroy pathogens in the nasal cavity. They are done quite simply - you need to twist a piece of cotton wool or gauze in a spiral, then dip it in a medicinal solution and insert it into the nasal passages. The size of the turunda is usually self-adjusting according to the size of the patient's nostrils.

When inserting the turunda into the nose, it is important that its tip remains outside - this will allow you to painlessly get it out of the nose at the end of the procedure.

The most effective are the following recipes for solutions for turunda:

  • Mix a third of a glass of fresh carrot juice with one teaspoon of propolis tincture and half a teaspoon of flower honey. Moisten turundas and insert into the nasal passages for 15 minutes, 3 times a day.
  • Dissolve 1 teaspoon of honey in 2 tablespoons of boiled water. Moisten turunda and insert into nose for 20 minutes.
  • Pour 0.5 liters of boiling water over 2 packs of bay leaves. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes. Moisten turundas and insert into the nose for 30 minutes 3 times a day.
  • Mix a small piece of beeswax with the yolk and a tablespoon of butter. Melt the resulting mixture in a water bath, then strain. Insert turundas into the nose for 20 minutes twice a day.

Inhalation

When carrying out inhalations, it should be remembered that they can be done only in the early stages of the development of the disease, when there is still not a lot of pus in the sinuses.

Usually, hot vapors are breathed over a pot or kettle for about 10 minutes, but now there are many special devices (inhalers, nebulizers). The most effective recipes for steam inhalation are:

  • boil the branches of any coniferous tree in boiling water;
  • Add 5-7 drops of essential oil to 1 liter of hot water. Usually, for maxillary sinusitis, eucalyptus, pine, tea tree oils are recommended;
  • in equal amounts, boil viburnum bark, nettle leaves and calendula flowers in boiling water;
  • Boil 30 bay leaves for 5 minutes in 1 liter of boiling water over low heat. Then leave for 50-60 minutes.
