Treatment of the nose with ointment for sinusitis

Maxillary sinusitis (sinusitis) is an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the maxillary sinus. Sinusitis develops on only one side, however, there is a possibility of development of bilateral inflammation, as well as damage to other paranasal sinuses.

A distinctive feature of inflammation of the mucous membrane of the maxillary sinus is difficulty in nasal breathing (or its complete absence), an unpleasant odor from the nose and the accumulation of mucus and pus in it. In the complex therapy of the inflammatory process, drugs are used in the form of drops, sprays, ointments.

Ointment for sinusitis has a high therapeutic effect and has a number of advantages over drugs with a similar effect, presented in other forms.

Features of therapy

More recently, the main method of treating sinusitis was surgery. However, today, more and more often, preference is given to conservative treatment. One of the popular remedies is ointment. The use of various ointments for sinusitis allows not only to cure the disease, but also has a number of advantages over other agents used to treat inflammatory processes of the nasopharynx:

  • the likelihood of the drug draining from the nasal cavity into the throat is excluded;
  • the consistency will not allow the drug to enter the Eustachian tube, therefore, the likelihood of developing inflammation is excluded;
  • moisturizes the mucous membrane of the nasal passages, eliminates drying out;
  • makes it difficult for pathogenic microorganisms to penetrate;
  • longer exposure compared to drops and sprays;
  • the form, convenient for use, makes it easy to use the product outside the hospital.

Often, nasal ointments are used as a base, supplemented with various components for more effective treatment of the disease. Such a complex sinusitis ointment can consist of various substances, including antiallergic and analgesic components.

Types of ointments

Sinusitis ointment is a practical and effective dosage form that allows you to quickly eliminate inflammation and reduce the severity of symptoms accompanied by maxillary sinusitis.

Vishnevsky ointment

The drug is the most popular remedy used in the complex treatment of sinusitis. Thanks to the components that make up the composition (xeroform, birch tar, castor oil), the ointment has an antiseptic effect, reduces inflammation, promotes healing and restoration of the nasal mucosa, stops the spread of infection, and removes pus from the nasal sinuses.

To increase the effectiveness of the drug, it is recommended to add a few drops of juice of such medicinal substances as aloe and cyclamen, as well as garlic or honey to Vishnevsky's ointment.

All components should be thoroughly mixed, applied to a cotton turundochka and placed in the nasal passage for ten to thirty minutes. The duration of therapy should not exceed twenty days.

The ointment has practically no contraindications and can be used to treat children if there is no individual intolerance to the components.

Fleming's ointment

This ointment is a complex homeopathic preparation, has a vasoconstrictor effect, a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect, improves the separation of mucous secretions, and helps to restore breathing. The composition includes such plant components as calendula (to reduce inflammation), menthol (to reduce swelling), liquid paraffin (moisturizes the mucous membrane), horse chestnut extract, zinc oxide. The use of the product is not allowed for children under two years of age.

The ointment is applied to cotton balls and placed in each nasal passage for five minutes, the procedure is repeated two to three times a day. The duration of therapy should not exceed ten days.

Ointment Simanovsky

This tool belongs to the category of complex ointments, which are made in special pharmacies on the prescription of the attending physician. The composition includes a whole complex of substances that provide analgesic, antiallergic (diphenhydramine), moisturizing (liquid paraffin) and regenerating effect (lanolin), helping to quickly eliminate the unpleasant symptoms of sinusitis (menthol, zinc oxide).

Before using the ointment, you should cleanse the nasal passages well, freeing them of excess mucus and pus. For this, the nasal passages are washed with an antiseptic solution (furacilin).

After that, a small amount of the product is applied to the nasal mucosa with a finger or a small cotton turunda, gently rubbed. When heated, the agent covers the entire surface of the nasal passages, relieves inflammation, and eliminates pathogenic microorganisms.

Antibiotic ointments

Preparations that include antibiotics are ways to effectively cope with pathogenic microorganisms that have caused inflammation of the paranasal sinuses. These drugs include Synthomycinoma ointment and Levomekol. Antibiotics are also part of complex ointments used in the treatment of nasal inflammation. Medicinal substances quickly penetrate into tissues, acting directly on the site of inflammation and without exerting a systemic effect on the body as a whole. These funds can also be used during epidemics, lubricating the inner surface of the beginning of the nasal passages with ointments for prophylactic purposes.

Folk recipes

You can make an effective nasal ointment yourself. For example, a recipe based on laundry soap is quite popular. The therapeutic effect of laundry soap is based on its composition - animal fat, fatty acids, vitamins D and E help moisturize the nasal mucosa. Alkali softens the nasal mucosa, improves the absorption of nutrients. Rosin, which is part of the soap, is a good disinfectant. For the prevention and complex therapy of sinusitis, various recipes with the use of soap are used.

  • Vegetable unrefined oil and soap grated on a fine grater are heated over low heat, which are taken in equal parts. A small amount of honey and beeswax is added to the resulting mixture and heating is continued until all components are dissolved. After cooling, the resulting product is placed in the nasal passages for five minutes with the help of turunda. Thanks to the combination of laundry soap with wax, the agent has a pronounced antimicrobial effect, reduces inflammation, and restores breathing. To enhance the therapeutic effect, add a few drops of fir oil, aloe or onion juice. The excess of the finished product is stored in the refrigerator, warming up before each use.
  • A small amount of soap grated on a fine grater is dissolved in warm (about 60 degrees) water, the nasal passages are washed with the resulting solution. The procedure is repeated four to six times a day. This method is effective for the prevention of viral infections that often precede sinusitis.

Ointments are effective and at the same time practically safe (in the absence of individual intolerance) means of treating sinusitis. In the complex therapy of the disease, these means are ways to speed up recovery, reduce the severity of unpleasant symptoms, and improve the excretion of viscous secretions and pus from the nasal sinuses. Often, a positive trend is observed after the first procedures.
