How to treat cough and runny nose

Symptoms such as a runny nose and cough can develop independently of each other. Sometimes, against the background of an exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, a viral infection penetrates the mucous membrane of the nasal cavities, which causes a runny nose.

On the other hand, bronchitis can result from the spread of infection, an inflammatory process from the nasopharynx to the mucous membrane of the trachea and bronchi. To choose the right remedies for the common cold and cough, you need to know the root cause of the disease.

In addition to the listed symptoms, there may be:

  1. hyperthermia. Its level depends on the type of infectious agent. Usually bacterial microorganisms keep high fever much longer than viruses;
  2. sneezing;
  3. body aches;
  4. nasal congestion due to swelling of the mucous membrane;
  5. mucous discharge; perspiration in the nasopharynx;
  6. itchy sensations in the nasal passages;
  7. sore throat with excruciating cough.

The reason for the deterioration of the condition can be:

  • infection;
  • hypothermia;
  • exacerbation of a chronic disease due to a decrease in immune defense;
  • allergic factor such as fluff, dust, food, wool, pollen, medicines, strong smells of chemicals, cosmetics.
