Ear treatment

How to treat the ear with folk remedies at home

Ear pain is a sign that signals the presence of pathological processes in the tissues of the hearing organ. In the absence of timely treatment, ENT diseases can be complicated by mastoiditis, myringitis, autophony, hearing loss, deafness and brain abscess. If there is an alarming symptom, you should seek help from an otolaryngologist who can determine the cause of the pathology and the appropriate course of therapy.

Ear treatment at home involves the use of infusions, decoctions, compresses and mixtures based on herbal herbs. They will help eliminate local manifestations of the disease and accelerate the regression of inflammatory processes.

Causes of pain

How to treat a sore ear at home? Before using medicines or alternative medicine, you should find out the cause of the unpleasant symptom. The appearance of pain syndrome can be caused by an infectious lesion of the nasopharynx, barotrauma, abnormal structure of the nasal septum, mechanical damage to the ear membrane, etc.

In case of damage to soft tissues and bone structures in the organ of hearing, irritation of pain receptors occurs, as a result of which uncomfortable and painful sensations arise. The main reasons for the occurrence of an alarming symptom include:

  • furunculosis;
  • acute tubo otitis;
  • purulent otitis media;
  • labyrinthitis;
  • petrosite;
  • perichondritis;
  • cholesteatoma;
  • aerootitis;
  • erysipelas;
  • shingles;
  • perforation of the membrane;
  • sulfur plugs.

Most of the above diseases provoke the development of catalytic and purulent processes in the mucous membranes of the organ of hearing. Degradation of tissues, coupled with the expression of the mucous membrane and the formation of a hemorrhagic rash, provokes the onset of pain.

Treatment methods

How to relieve ear pain at home? The principles of treatment of ENT diseases are determined by the location of the foci of inflammation and the nature of the manifestation of concomitant symptoms. It should be noted that the means of alternative medicine are mainly symptomatic, i.e. eliminate the clinical manifestations of the disease, but not the main cause of their occurrence.

You can relieve pain and inflammation in the organ of hearing using the following means:

  • warming compresses - normalize blood supply and, accordingly, tissue trophism, thereby accelerating the process of their regeneration;
  • cotton turundas - stop inflammation and alleviate pain, which facilitates the course of the disease;
  • ear washing - helps to wash out pathogenic flora from the ear canal, which leads to the early restoration of local immunity;
  • ear drops - eliminate puffiness and catarrhal processes in the affected mucosa, as a result of which the regression of inflammation foci is accelerated.

It should be noted that ear treatment at home should be agreed with an otolaryngologist. Elimination of symptoms does not lead to recovery, but only makes it possible to alleviate the course of pathology.

Treatment for tinnitus

The occurrence of tinnitus is often caused by the accumulation of transudate in the middle ear, which leads to disruptions in the conduction of the sound signal by the parts of the auditory analyzer. To eliminate the violation, it is necessary to ensure the normal outflow of fluid from the ear cavity. How to treat the ear at home?

It is possible to remove edema from the mucous membrane of the Eustachian tube, which performs the drainage and ventilation function, using the following means:

  • lemon balm infusion: pour 1 tbsp. l. dried herbs 250 ml of boiling water. Drink the filtered infusion three times a day, 50 ml for a month;
  • garlic tincture: pour 300 g of peeled garlic with ½ liter of vodka. Insist the product for 3-4 days in a dark place. Take 20 drops of the tincture diluted in 100 ml of milk daily;
  • poplar leaf juice: chop the black poplar leaves and strain out the juice with cheesecloth. Instill 3-4 drops of juice into the ear canal daily for 7 days.

It is not recommended to use garlic tincture for patients suffering from renal insufficiency.

Otolaryngologists warn that products containing alcohol should not be used in the presence of high temperatures. Hyperthermia indicates inflammatory processes in the body, which are often accompanied by the formation of purulent foci. In turn, purulent exudate signals the presence of bacterial flora. Warming up the affected organ will only accelerate the development of pathogens and the spread of infection.

Eliminate pain

How to heal your ears at home if you have aching or shooting pains? The presence of pain syndrome indicates the course of acute inflammatory processes in the tissues. To eliminate inflammation, which is the main irritant factor, experts recommend using agents that have a calming effect:

  • decoction of chamomile: 30 g of medicinal chamomile, pour 300 ml of boiling water and boil for 4 minutes. Instill 3-4 drops of the strained broth into the ear canal up to 5 times a day for 3 weeks;
  • bead syrup: add sugar to the ripe elderberry and leave for 3-4 days in a dark place. Take 1 tbsp of fruit juice with sugar every morning on an empty stomach. 10 days;
  • Walnut oil: Squeeze the oil out of the crushed walnut. Instill 2-3 drops of oil in a sore ear 3 times a day.

Important! Walnuts are among the foods with a high degree of allergenicity. It is not recommended to use walnut oil for the treatment of ear pathologies in children under the age of 10.

Anti-inflammatory drugs

With the development of catarrhal processes, osmotic pressure in the tissues increases, which stimulates the production of inflammatory mediators (prostaglandin, serotonin, histamine). An increase in vascular permeability inevitably leads to an increase in the amount of exudate in the affected mucous membranes. The result is swelling in the ear canal and ear cavity. Palpation of the tragus located at the mouth of the external auditory canal is painful.

How to heal the ear at home? Medicinal plants possess pronounced anti-inflammatory properties, which include components that inhibit proliferative processes and the formation of a granulation shaft in the affected tissues. According to phytotherapists, medicinal herbs such as:

  • angelica: bury 3-4 drops of plant sap in a sore ear for 5 days;
  • chamomile: once a day, rinse the ear with a weak decoction of chamomile for 2 weeks;
  • calendula: soak a cotton swab in calendula tincture and place it in the ear canal of the inflamed ear for 30-40 minutes.

Common calamus, mint-leaved basil, tall wrestler, meadow geranium and belladonna have a pronounced analgesic and antiphlogistic effect. Decoctions from these plants can be used to make compresses to relieve the symptoms of diffuse otitis externa and furunculosis in the ear canal.

Vodka compress

Treatment of ear pathologies with compresses contributes to the rapid elimination of inflammation and pain in the affected tissues. Compresses are conventionally divided into two types: oil and vodka. In the presence of pathological processes in the organ of hearing, not accompanied by suppuration and hyperthermia, it is more advisable to use vodka compresses.If the ear hurts badly, how to treat it at home with vodka?

To stop the symptoms of ear pathology, compresses are used in accordance with the following rules:

  1. sterile gauze is folded in 4-5 layers so that it corresponds in area to the auricle;
  2. a large hole is made in the gauze so that the auricle passes through it freely;
  3. the finished product is moistened in vodka, after which it is slightly squeezed;
  4. the gauze base is pressed tightly to the skin behind the ear;
  5. to prevent the material from drying out, polyethylene is placed on the gauze;
  6. after 4 hours, the compress is removed.

The healing effect of vodka compresses is due to the warming effect, due to which vasodilation occurs. This contributes to the normalization of blood circulation, regeneration of the mucous epithelium and the removal of excess fluid from the tissues.

Before treating your ear at home, you should consult with an otolaryngologist. It is strongly not recommended to use warming compresses in the presence of otorrhea and high fever.

Treating congestion in the ears

A feeling of congestion and transfusion of fluid in the ear cavity occurs when there is an excessive accumulation of transudate in the middle ear. This may be due to the development of exudative otitis media or eustachitis. How to treat ears at home?

You can stop unpleasant manifestations with the help of folk remedies that have a pronounced diuretic effect. Due to the removal of intercellular fluid from the tissues, their swelling and the amount of transudate in the ear cavity will decrease. Some of the most effective diuretics include:

  • kupyr forest: 1 tbsp. pour 300 ml of boiling water over the roots of the cupir and boil for 25 minutes. Mix the strained broth with 100 ml of mineral water. Take the prepared solution 2 hours 3 times a day 20-25 minutes before meals;
  • burdock root: 2 hours of peeled and crushed raw materials, pour 500 ml of boiling water and boil for 20 minutes. Take the strained broth, 100 ml three times a day for 1 week;
  • celery: chop 1 bunch of celery and pour 300 ml of boiling water over it. After 5 hours, strain the infusion and take 100 ml three times a day.

Note! Diuretics are contraindicated in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis.

Diuretics help not only to reduce edema, but also to remove metabolites of pathogenic agents from the affected mucous membranes. This speeds up the healing process and the restoration of normal hearing organ function.
