Ear treatment

Applying camphor alcohol to the ears

Camphor alcohol is a medicinal solution that is made from an essential oil substance (camphor) and ethyl alcohol. The drug has a pronounced decongestant, antibacterial, warming, analgesic and antiphlogistic effect.

When treating ear pathologies, the phytopreparation is recommended to be used only in the form of warming compresses and lotions. Physiotherapy procedures help to eliminate puffiness and accelerate the regeneration of inflamed tissues. However, when using the product, several important rules must be observed, following which will avoid the manifestation of side effects.

Pharmacological properties

Treatment of the ears with camphor alcohol helps to suppress inflammatory processes in the tissues, but it should be borne in mind that the drug in this case is used only externally. Experts do not recommend burying camphor alcohol in the ears, which is due to the irritating properties of the solution.

The drug dilates the blood vessels, which contributes to a more intense blood supply to the affected tissues. Alcohol tincture on camphor has pronounced antimicrobial, drying, regenerating and analgesic properties. Regular use of the drug has the following effect:

  • increases vascular tone;
  • reduces swelling of the mucous membranes;
  • accelerates the healing of damaged tissues;
  • relieves pain;
  • eliminates spasms in muscle tissue;
  • eliminates the pathogenic flora in the lesions.

Important! It is impossible to bury camphor alcohol in the ear, even if it is diluted with water. The components of the drug irritate the mucous membrane, which is fraught with the occurrence of puffiness.

Allergotest

Alcohol tincture is used only externally in the form of warming compresses and cotton swabs placed in the ear canals. Treatment of the ear with camphor alcohol will help eliminate the catarrhal processes that occur during the development of otitis media, eustachitis, labyrinthitis and other types of ear pathologies. But before using the herbal remedy for therapeutic purposes, it is necessary to conduct a small test to determine the degree of sensitivity of the skin to the action of the components of the drug:

  1. dilute an alcoholic solution of camphor with boiled (mineral) water in a 1: 1 ratio;
  2. heat the medicinal composition to 36-37 degrees;
  3. drip 3-4 drops of the prepared product on your wrist.

Important! It is strictly forbidden to use alcohol tincture in the treatment of ENT diseases in children under 3 years old, due to the high risk of burns on the skin.

If redness, watery blisters and erythematous spots do not appear on the skin within 1-2 hours, the drug can be used as directed. However, if severe itching and rashes occur, it is impossible to use the medicinal solution for medicinal purposes.

Ear turundas

How to treat the ear with camphor alcohol? In case of shooting pains in the organ of hearing, ear turundas can be used. Due to the antispasmodic action of the solution, pain is eliminated within 30 minutes, which greatly facilitates the course of the disease.

Important! For compresses and ear tampons, use a weakly concentrated 2% solution of the drug. For the treatment of children, it is advisable to dilute the product with water.

When carrying out the procedure, the following nuances must be taken into account:

  • the drug is diluted with water in a 1: 1 ratio;
  • the diluted agent is heated to 37 degrees;
  • cotton swabs are moistened in a medicinal composition;
  • slightly wrung out turundas are inserted into the ear for 15 minutes.

After removing the tampons, a cotton swab should be inserted into the ear canal to prevent the entry of pathogens. To achieve the desired therapeutic effect, the procedure should be carried out 3 times a day for a week.

Warming compress

Warming compresses can be used to relieve local manifestations of ear problems, such as pain, ear congestion, and swelling. Experts warn that heat therapy will be advisable only in the absence of purulent inflammation in the ear cavity. For this reason, an otolaryngologist should be consulted before using the physiotherapy method.

How to apply camphor alcohol in the ear?

Instructions:

  1. cut a hole in gauze folded in 4-5 layers, equal in size to the auricle;
  2. cut out wax paper and polyethylene in the same way;
  3. moisten gauze in a solution of camphor alcohol and boiled water (proportion for adults 1: 1, for children - 1: 3);
  4. apply gauze to the area behind the auricle;
  5. fix wax paper, polyethylene and a layer of cotton wool on top;
  6. fix the compress with bandages;
  7. after 2-3 hours, remove the compress.

Important! To eliminate the possibility of getting burned, before applying gauze, treat the skin with baby cream or petroleum jelly.

After the procedure, it is advisable to insulate the sore ear with a woolen scarf or scarf. It is undesirable to go outside for several hours after thermotherapy, as this can lead to hypothermia and exacerbation of the disease.

Instilling camphor alcohol

The use of camphor alcohol for the ears in the form of drops is strictly prohibited, due to the irritating effect of the drug. As a rule, when inflammation occurs in the ear cavity, the ear membrane is also affected. Under the influence of alcoholic tincture, even greater inflammation of the membrane is not excluded, which is fraught with its perforation.

Expired medications should not be used to treat ear diseases. Their use causes an allergic reaction and irritation of the mucous membranes of the hearing organ.

For instillation, experts recommend using only camphor oil, which is 90% vegetable oil and 10% camphor. This remedy acts on the mucous membranes of the ear more gently, therefore, it can be used not only for external use. To eliminate ear plugs, otolaryngologists advise using cotton wool soaked in an alcohol solution diluted in water.

Side effects

Failure to comply with the rules for the use of herbal remedies leads to a deterioration in the state of health and the course of ENT pathologies. It is strongly not recommended to use alcoholic formulations in the treatment of otitis media, accompanied by the release of serous or purulent exudate from the auditory canal. You can use camphor alcohol for the ear in the form of lotions and compresses no more than 2-3 times a day, observing the time of the procedure.

An overdose of a medicinal solution can cause the following adverse reactions:

  • skin rashes (urticaria);
  • swelling of the mucous membranes of the middle and outer ear;
  • irritation of the skin behind the ear;
  • headache;
  • convulsions;
  • dizziness;
  • cardiopalmus.

The course of local therapy using camphor alcohol should not exceed 10 days.

If these signs occur, you should abandon treatment with a phytopreparation and seek help from a specialist. Untimely help can cause the development of conductive hearing loss or autophony.

Contraindications

The use of warming compresses in the event of infectious ENT diseases allows you to quickly eliminate pathogens in the foci of inflammation. The components of the product help to eliminate toxic substances from tissues, which leads to their regeneration and restoration of local immunity.However, otolaryngologists warn that it is impossible to use camphor alcohol for ear pain in the following cases:

  • age up to 3 years;
  • pregnancy;
  • lactation;
  • tachycardia;
  • dermatitis;
  • epilepsy;
  • purulent otitis media;
  • furunculosis;
  • renal failure;
  • tendency to allergies.

Do not use drugs with an irritating effect for the treatment of diseases accompanied by a violation of the integrity of the skin. Therefore, if abrasions or hemorrhagic rashes occur in the external auditory canal, the medicine cannot be used. To exclude the possibility of aggravating the state of health, before using the medicine, you need to be examined by a doctor. He will determine the type of disease and give precise recommendations on the use of camphor alcohol.
