How to make a sophisticated nasal ointment

For the treatment of various pathological processes, accompanied by the development of purulent inflammation in the nasal cavity, a complex ointment can be prescribed. Most often, a complex nasal ointment is prepared in a pharmacy, since pharmaceutical companies do not produce this kind of drugs. This tool is a mixture of various components combined in a certain ratio to achieve maximum therapeutic effect.

Benefits of ointments

The use of ointments for the treatment of inflammatory processes in the nasal cavity has a number of undeniable advantages over other forms of drugs.

  • Due to the viscous consistency, the medicine does not enter the throat and allows it to have maximum effect at the site of application.
  • The drug does not enter the ear canals, so the use of ointments minimizes the likelihood of developing otitis media.
  • Most often, this form of drug in its composition includes components that have a moisturizing effect on the nasal mucosa, preventing drying out and the formation of crusts.

A complex nasal ointment in its composition includes substances that can eliminate or minimize the main signs of the disease. So the use of ointments allows:

  • cure the disease without surgery;
  • relieve puffiness and congestion, relieve nasal breathing;
  • reduce the severity of inflammation.

Main types

Based on the diagnosis, the doctor may prescribe one or another type of ointment. The main differences lie in the composition of the product and the way it is used. It should also be noted that each of the types of ointments has different contraindications for use, it all depends on the components that make up the drug. That is why it is impossible to find unambiguous instructions for the use of complex ointments.

Most often, an antibacterial component is part of a complex product, but there are options made on the basis of plant components, for example, cyclamen root.

Standard recipe

Often, a complex ointment is prepared according to the generally accepted basic recipe:

  • liquid paraffin as a base;
  • novocaine as a local anesthetic;
  • diphenhydramine, as an antihistamine component;
  • menthol;
  • chloramphenicol, as an antibacterial drug.

Depending on the type of infection and the individual characteristics of the patient's body, it is permissible to replace chloramphenicol with another antibacterial agent - erythromycin. In this case, the complex ointment will have the following composition:

  • Vaseline oil;
  • menthol;
  • erythromycin;
  • lanolin as a fat base;
  • lidocaine, as an anesthetic component.

Silver recipe

Often the composition of the product includes components containing silver ions, for example, protargol. Thanks to such additives, the ointment has a pronounced antibacterial effect, reduces inflammation. Funds with silver ions have a composition similar to the classical version, including streptocide as an antibacterial component and protargol.

Diphenhydramine, which is part of this type of ointment, most often has no side effects in the absence of individual intolerance. Therefore, with the correct dosage and following the instructions, the use of the ointment is safe even for children.

Simanovsky's recipe

This recipe for a multicomponent drug is used in the treatment of purulent inflammatory processes localized in the nasal cavity. The drug is prepared in special pharmacies with a doctor's prescription. The composition of Simanovsky's preparation includes:

  • cocaine hydrochloride as a local anesthetic;
  • lanolin;
  • menthol;
  • Vaseline oil;
  • zinc oxide as a disinfectant.

Before using the ointment for the treatment of diseases of the nasal cavity, you should alternately rinse the nasal passages with solutions of furacilin or chamomile, and then eliminate the congestion with the help of vasoconstrictor drugs (Nazivin, Nazol). After that, cotton turundochki dipped in ointment are placed in the nostrils.

Instructions for use

If a complex nasal ointment is prescribed, instructions for use should be attached with the recipe. The use of such ointments involves the following mandatory steps.

  • Rinsing the nasal passages using saline, chamomile or sage decoction, furacilin solution and other disinfectants.
  • After washing, vasoconstrictor drops are instilled into each nasal passage.
  • Then cotton turunda with a small amount of ointment must be placed in the nasal passages in a circular motion.

Important! The duration of exposure to the drug is determined individually, based on the type of infection, the age of the patient, the type of ointment, and individual indicators.

  • It should also be remembered that during the procedure, you should breathe through the mouth, this will avoid the drug dripping into the oral cavity.
  • After removing the cotton wool from the nasal passages, gently blow your nose.

Features of use

Despite the fact that complex ointments in their composition contain antibiotics, which are usually prescribed only in those situations when other treatment is ineffective, they are used both in pediatrics and for the treatment of pregnant and lactating women.

In the case when the patient develops a bacterial infection that causes inflammation in the nasal cavity, and antibiotics are highly undesirable, multicomponent ointment turns out to be a safer treatment option than oral antibiotics.

  • In pediatrics, such ointments are used only as directed by a doctor, adjusting the composition and duration of use, taking into account the age of the child and the characteristics of the disease.
  • Despite the components that make up the composition, the use of the drug does not affect the reaction, therefore, it is allowed to drive a car during treatment.
  • The use of the product does not affect the work of other drugs, therefore, such ointments are prescribed in the complex treatment of diseases.

It should also be remembered that, despite the comparative safety of complex ointments, there is a risk of adverse reactions. After using these funds, you can most often observe:

  • redness at the site of application, trial;
  • bleeding from the nose due to drying out of the nasal mucosa;
  • peeling and hyperemia of the skin near the nasal passages.

Symptoms of this kind occur in people prone to allergic reactions. After the appearance of even one of the above signs, you should stop using the ointment and consult your doctor.

Before using the ointment for the first time, it is recommended to conduct an allergy test: apply a small amount of the drug to the skin of the inner surface of the hand and monitor the local reaction.

If there is no redness, itching or peeling at the site of application, then the ointment can be used in the complex therapy of an infectious disease.
